Got the 7s Solar Sapphire and am super happy, I went with it vs Venu2 or Epix. Coming from a Samsun 3 and 4 over the past 4 years I don't miss the AMOLED display at all. It was cool having a supper fancy watch face, for about 5 minutes. The significant improvement is the battery life and having all my health/training metrics in one place as I also have a Garmin bike computer with all the extras. Now a week in I definitely prefer the fenix screen over the Samsung, I'm never going to watch youtube or preview images on my watch so why do I need it? I can put a Rolex face on my Samsung and it still looks like a Samsung with a cheesy watch face and ~1 day battery life. Or I can wear my fenix 7 with a nice data-rich display and it looks like a fenix 7!

I purchased the epix coming from an Apple Watch 7 . I purchased the fenix 7x sapphire solar and returned due to the display and exchanged for the epix DLC sapphire titanium. Job Done

I'm mostly an outdoor guy so I'm using a Fenix 7 solar sapphire with pleasure!! Epic screen is gorgeous, but I'm afraid that after 4h+ bike session under direct sunlight is not safe for an amoled screen. The Fenix trans reflective on the other hand is a pleasure to see outdoor

Amoled or oled is meant for indoor use at a temperature below 80 degrees. Aka TV's and tablets. Fenix 7 looks better under the sun

Fenix 7X SS all the way for me. I was confident enough with this choice that I also purchased another one for my father. Battery was no. 1 for me. I always choose watches that will last my whole holiday trips without worrying about an additional charging cable (unless I'd really need several hours of GPS a day) and used to pick the most autonomous watches I could get over the years (solar power or mechanical, not to ever have the battery going flat in the middle of my trip or cruise). MIP vs. AMOLED - it's simple for me. I don't like distractions on my wrist. On every watch I disable any auto-backlight, hand gestures etc. I'd go nuts with Epix. I prefer to see the content on the watch all the time. AOD ain't for me though, as it changes brightness at hand gesture and it would irritate me way too much (I tried in the shop and know the drill from other watches with backlight on gesture and I honestly hate that). MIP does the job well and is insanely amazing in the sun, whilst not so bad indoors. As you said in the video, I'm not the type who like wearing something that 'screams in your face' ;) So AMOLED or OLED is a definitive no go for me. It might be OK for a 'sports only' watch, during workouts, but definitely not something I would be anyhow comfortable wearing as every-day all-rounder. Fenix is still the champ for me. Tactix also tempting though, but brings no added value for my use scenarios.

I was set on getting the Epix. Then the more I thought about it. I wanted the insane battery life of the Fenix. Also the more natural looking screen makes more sense on a wrist for me at least. Doesn't hurt that i also got a titanium band with it for the same price as just the Epix👌

Love the video! I have the fenix 7x and love it. I don’t miss the smoked screen although I’m sure I’d love the epix too if I got it. I just prefer the flashlight, the screen color on workouts outdoors(white) and the crazy battery life.

Yes, screen is amazing. But do I really need that “phones screen” on watch? Do I really need let my watch bright all day? How often do I look at watch during day? Isnt it much normall to have screen without brightness for watch? Yes, I know. Resolution. Maps. Notifications. But this should be a watch. Not a next smartphone on my wrist. I have one just in my pocket. You know I found myself prefering fenix screens over any amoled since I first moved from Apple Watch s4 to Forerunner 645.

I've been a Galaxy Watch customer for 5+ years. What I want is for Garmin to come out with a version of their watches that supports phone calls + LTE. That's the one feature holding me back from moving on from Samsung. I see the fitness benefits of the Garmins over Samsung, but I don't want to give up the LTE connection, should my phone and I get separated.

I have the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic 46mm with LTE and also a Garmin Epix Gen 2. As for the Galaxy Watch 4, the rotating bezel is still a better way for me to navigate. And speaking of navigation, the Galaxy Watch 4 is a more fluid experience with turn by turn directions on the watch itself when paired with Google Maps. With the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic, I get around 48 hours of battery life. And with the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic, I am able to monitor BP (via the hack) and ECG. With my Epix Gen 2, I get between 10 to 12 days of battery life in gesture mode and all GPS systems with multi band activated. SPO2 on when sleeping. I am able to have turn by turn directions on the watch with a third party app that works with Google Maps, though it takes an extra button push or two to get it going. The Garmin definitely is a better fitness watch and makes a decent notification device, and I use a Z Fold3 so I get to respond on the watch, where as an iPhone user gets the notification but can only respond back with the phone. So, I like both watches but use them depending on the situation, especially if I can't have my phone with me. Then the LTE comes in handy.

Hello guys, someone has hacked my new garmin fenix 7 yesterday, the backwards button made music start playing the start button made nothing happend and the whole watch was just running haywire. i wonder is it possible to use a sportswatch like fenix 7 without internet of anykind? More in-depth sleep tracking much longer battery life much more accurate heart rate sensors (galaxy watch measures heart rate every 10 min, Garmin measures heart rate multiple times per second, 24/7) more accurate GPS that works even when the paired phone is disconnected (because gamins connect directly to the satellites, not to the phone or cell towers) and the ability to download the entire topo map of your country - which also downloads all hiking trails, biking trails, footpaths, etc - and the ability to navigate those trails even without cell coverage, or having a phone near you. more sport profiles higher water resistance Garmins excel in anything that involves outdoors.

Hi Mark , I’m using an old Apple Watch 3 and I have the 1% battery drain per minute when I’m doing a run . My battery health is at 82%. Right now I would go for the Epix Sapphire with the AOD off or the Fenix 7 with Solar and Sapphire. I only use notification and I don’t plan to use the maps that much. Amoled display is nice but the battery will age faster compare to the Fenix. If it works like with the cellphone , more charging cycle = less battery capacity. So the Epix 6 days maybe become 4 days after a year or 2. What do you think ?

Hey! Thanks for your comment :) What you said is 100% true. The more change cycles something goes through, the less capacity it’ll be later on down the road. So in that regard, the fenix 7 solar would be your best bet when it comes to battery longevity. Honestly, I’d recommend getting the fenix 7 solar. I think you’ll be more than happy, especially since you don’t use the maps all that much.

If money is no object and you don’t mind frequent charging of your phone then go for the Epix 2. I have gone for the Fenix 7 Sapphire Solar though. I have the watch to track sports activities and when doing about 1 to 1.5 hours of sports per day the battery life comes down quite a lot. I find myself recharging roughly every 8 days, and expect I would have to recharge the Epix every 2 or 3 days with the same usage, and that’s too often for my liking.

I replaced my Apple Watch 7 and Garmin Fénix 6X Pro with Garmin Epix 2, which is a good compromise between usability and battery life. I don't mind charging my watch every week or every third day if needed. The battery life of the Fenix 7 is tempting, but I see more advantages with the Epix 2.

Yeah either of those two Garmins are better than the Apple Watch for accuracy and health tracking - so it all comes down to battery. The Epix makes the transition from Apple to Garmin easier because of that AMOLED - since both have it.

The preferred only matters for sleep tracking. In other words, if you set the Epix to preferred, you can still use the fenix for your day to day activities - but if you sleep with the fenix, it won’t track your sleep - only the preferred device will (the Epix, in this example). Atleast, that’s what Garmin says

If you are looking for a smartwatch the Garmin Fenix series (Epix, Quatix, Tactix) is NOT your choice, it’s mainly a sport watch, which has got many “smart” features. But it is for hiking (topo maps, barometer, altimeter, etc.) running (training recommendation based on your fitness level, track assist, guided interval trainings) cycling (built in MTB dynamics, pedal cadence sensor compatibility), strength training (counting the reps, guide you through a full workout, identify the exercises you performed, measuring the rests)… over 60 sport profiles, daily reports about your fitness level, and so on and so on… To buy these watches for smartwatch only is like to buy a Hummer to bring your children to school with it… total waste of potential. Please stop try to sell these sport computers on the same level like the Apple watch, Huawei or others. It’s not the same league! To buy this only for receiving call notifications is simply ridiculous, however as I read the comments most of the people here would like to buy for this.

Hate that these influencers comparing it to like an apple watch etc. if you want a smartwatch to see your notifications and look pretty get an Apple Watch😒 but if you’re serious outdoor athletic junkie like myself haha, Garmin Fenix & Epix are the ones to go I turn off the notifications, so I don’t receive calls or text messages on the watch. I mainly use it for a watch for time obviously , and all the activity tracking etc.

Remember Before you buy ,garmin watches are sport watches ,no shazam no watch faces from play store no microphone no lte no google pay etc etc etc , apple watch is a mini tv in your wrist not a watch, in galaxy watches and pixel watches charging the watch everyday is a nuisance 🤓

Garmin has the worst and most user unfriendly software I have ever seen in any of the smartwatches I used in the market. It is confusing and often does not work at all. I have a garmin epix (gen 2), carbon gray dlc titanium with black band, premium active and I will send it back for a refund. It will not find my Telstra WiFi 5G broadband connection my other WiFi items including other brands find with ease. Garmin, this is a useless piece of product that is not only overpriced but also user unfriendly. Do not purchase such an outdated unsmart-watch.
