Same, but on my 7x pro the screen got pretty scratched up by now, cause i didnt buy the saphire-version😪 i dont like the new solar edition of the fenix 8, cause the bezzel is so fat, makes it look weird to me, just like the enduro.

47mm with the 1.4 screen AMOLED seems like the biggest upgrade to me over the previous epix pro Gen 2, getting a previous 51mm screen in a 47mm body is cool

I’m thinking there’s not quite enough there to justify an upgrade from Epix Gen 2 Sapphire. I’ll wait for the series 9. It’s getting a bit like phones these days. We reached near peak tech and changes are mostly cosmetic though I operate the watch with the phone connect smart features off😂. I purchased the Epix for health tracking and sports namely running and mountain climbing / hiking. I don’t need or want to get text messages etc on my watch when doing these things. I love the endurance, altitude and heat acclimation features. Epix gen 2 is still a relevant and super watch.
@golfinitup2
@golfinitup2 2 ай бұрын
@@Writer_Davide I am on the same page with you! Like there are fun new features, but are they $1,100 worth of new features, heck no! Doesn't mean I wouldn't like to have them though. It just doesn't make a lot of sense to upgrade from a great watch in the Epix 2 for features that only slightly enhance my day-to-day use (the flashlight seems like the best improvement). Love the point you made about phones. Many parallels there. I have an iPhone 11 Pro Max. Love the heck out of it. But it's about to be 5 years old and even though the year over year upgrades aren't much. After a few years they start to add up. The sweet spot for me on the Fenix will probably be when they add the LTE version, which I don't care for and then I will buy the version before that on a deep discount. Or when my Epix 2 dies. Which I would hope the former happens first.

Your tests are amazingly detailed. From these tests it looks compared to Fenix8, Epix Pro has significantly longer battery life, slightly more accurate GPS, slightly inferior elevation, and slightly more accurate & responsive HR sensor. So Epix Pro is superior to Fenix 8 for PRO users. Is that right?

Is the altimeter accurate on your device ? I have the 47mm Amoled since last friday (5 days) and it tends to overestimate by a lot the floors climbed in a day. For example, yesterday my iPhone and my Apple Watch Ultra counted 5 and 4 floors (5 is the right answer). The Fenix 8 had 26. I tried to clean up the watch like Garmin advised and did a manual calibration. It seems a little bit better today with the iPhone at 14 and the Fenix at 20. The right count is probably around 14-15.

I'm a die hard G shock fan. I've been wearing the GBDH1000 which then got discontinued so i went with GBDH2000. Both have excellent MIP display. And great battery life but as you know casio app interface is just horrible. It's almost useless considering how hard it is to navigate and waste of time. But it's a g shock so it's durable and never broke on me even wearing every day to work, shower, swimming, surfing, hiking. I just ordered the fenix 8 and went with the solar MIP display. Was hesitant to buy the fenix 7xpro since the battery life seemed a little low. But now that went up, it's time for me to try it. Really looking forward to the useful modes on the garmin watch, and the flashlight. That itself made me want it even more. I hate having to pull out my phone or find a flashlight when i'm out camping. Now i can go pee without searching for my flashlight i probably kicked to the side of my tent. :D

@@Koufalia4 If you actually use your watch for fitness like the apps, i would say garmin was the right choice. If you're a person that likes a watch that rarely needs to be charged ( i haven't charged mine in over 4 months) and is just rugged as hell. G shock is the way i think. Only reason i'm switching is mainly for the flashlight to be honest ahahah. When i work out i dont look at my heart rates and stuff like that anyways. If it wasn't for the flashlight, i probably wouldn't buy the garmin from a GBDH2000. I mean this watch looks sexy and the display is just so clear. One thing casio did good with the MIP display.

Does the new interface allow for adjusting the vibration intensity for notifications? I have a Fenix 7 Pro and I'm constantly missing notifications because the vibration is so weak. The vibe for phone calls is decent though. I got rid of my Apple watch Ultra specifically for this reason. It uses haptic motion to simulate vibration and it just didn't work for me. Thanks for the great video!

Which watch would you recommend for a bow hunting fanatic that goes everywhere from the mountains of Idaho to farm land of Kentucky. Mostly interested in tracking ,maps, and exercise. I don’t want too much watch that overwhelms me ( will be my first) but enough to compliment my needs..

My Fenix 5 still works great for my IM training and racing... However I think it might be time for an upgrade

Do you think they'll go on sale during Black Friday or around Christmas, or does that not happen with Garmin for the first 6 months or so? I want to get the 47mm 8 non solar. I currently have a Fenix 5 Plus that is in great shape, but obviously won't need it if i get a new watch. Is there a market for older Garmin watches?

Thank you Des, that you shown us more about replying to notifications. So besides of the voice input, is there still the T9 keyboard? Its a good start, i think on the venu only with the T9 keyboard is possible. It seems Garmin still doesn't show all the app icons on the watch. I think the only other manufacturer is Huawei who just doesn't change this, all other companies do that in the meantime. I mean how difficult is it to mirror the icons from the watch? Even my like 10 years old Galaxy watch fit e with a black and white display could do that. I mean its very annoying to have first to guess from which app the notification is.

Man your reviews are top notch does fenix 8 support full touch ? I am not a buttons guy

Not entirely, you still have to start and stop activities using the upper right hand button for instance but you can certainly navigate through many areas of the interface with touch only.

@@DesFit Thanks a lot for clearing my doubt...can you make video comparing Garmin Fenix 8 and Huawei Watch 4 Pro (titanium version) I own one... the software and the ecosystem might cause some initial setup problems for you (it takes 20 mins) but the video made by you would be a game changer! Cheers 🍻

Few questions: 1) can it show icons for notifications from apps like telegram, banks etc (current watches know only very limited set of icons) 2) can one expect new notification center on older models (like venu3)? 3) can one expect voice memo on venu3? 4) can one expect new strength exercise to on older watches which do support strength exercise already? Many thanks in advance

Great review Des, I quite like the new interface and the amoled display but may not use the dive functionality. So upgradin decision will be tough fenix pro 7 or fenix 8

Okay... I literally just bought an Epix Pro Gen 2 47mm Sapphire a few weeks ago. I'm still within my return window. What are your thoughts compared to this Fenix 8?? I actually like the look of the smaller bevel on this one... CHOICES!!

Nice review Des. Reflecting on the UI of the watch and navigation between screens, it seemed crazy slow. If not as slow as the previous gen with the same processor. Assuming Garmin didn’t upgrade the processor on this new release which is disappointing.
