My opinion. I am a runner since 2018. Bought a forerunner 235. Kept it for four years. Bought a Fenix 6. Kept it one year. Forerunner 255. One year. Instinct 2. Six months. Now I own a one month old Fenix 7 pro. Garmin is talented at making you buy the new thing. I could still do the job with my Forerunner 235 or at least stick to the Fenix 6. Thankfully I sold them without problem and at good prices but God, you just need GPS, Interval training and good looks. Looking forward for my first Marathon in Athens. 🎉🎉

I currently own a Fenix 7 pro and I have to admit that the latest model doesn't offer anything that I don't already have. The MIP screen is a must for me as I usually go on multi-day events such as sailing, hiking or cycling... The Fenix 7 pro already has the 5th heart rate sensor, so that's something I already have. The microphone is completely unnecessary for me. I also appreciate the more mature, more reliable firmware (I used to test betas but there was far too much unnecessary frustration and wasted battery cycles...). So Garmin has made my life easier this time around, because I can't see any advantage with this model compared to my Fenix 7 pro... Maybe the Enduro 3 would be grate however I switched back to the 47mm case size because I feel more comfortable for daily driver.

Next battery life, I have my watch set up to run at night with the strobe flashing so I do not get killed or hit by a vehicle. This allows me 4 days of battery on my Epix Pro I guess because of the 2 hours of strobe but anyways that’s just about 1 day longer than my AWU but as I have said before battery doesn’t make a difference in my mind because mine go on the charger daily so no worries there ever. Do you mind making a mapping /navigation comparison between Garmin Enduro 3 & Amazfit Trex 3? I'd like to see how it holds up in on the fly logical- navigating if off the course & also capacity of map storage
@ChaseTheSummit3 ай бұрын
They're very different in mapping. Yes, the Amazfit renders maps fast and smooth but it lacks routeable maps so you can't navigate to destinations on the fly without first designing a course on your phone and sending it. The maps are essentially just an image and not actual map data. Garmin comes pre-installed with an entire country of maps installed. Amazfit can only sync a 300x300 mile area. Garmin has a navigation/course builder tool in their app and can create dynamic round trip routes. Amazfit does not have a course builder and your need to get GPX files from another source like strava. Hope that helps.

Great video. I'm really tempted by the Enduro 3. Regarding navigation, is map coverage global, or regional based on purchase location? it might sound a silly question but the GARMIN vehicle SATNAV's have regional maps loaded based on purchase region (Europe, North America etc) which makes sense, but a smartwatch user is more like to travel around, potentially to another global region. I'd be disappointed if it didn't work on a global scale.

I haven't seen anyone mentioning AMOLED Screen Burn-In. All OLED and AMOLED displays are prone to this issues and it's rather matter of time when it happens to your screen, rather than if it happens. It's just the way the technology works. Because watches display static image all the time, they are the most vulenrable type of OLED devices. Companies use different tricks to prevent burn-in but I sooner or later it happens to every watch. So if you're planning to keep you watch longer than 1-2 years - keep that in mind. I'm really excited to buy Fenix 8 AMOLED, but the burn-in issue is the only think restraining me from it. If you spend 1000-1200$, you don't want your screen to have some flaws after 1-2 years of usage... Think twice before making your choice.

I don't think it's such a big deal in practice. The mitigations in place to stop it from happening are annoying though (the auto-dimming, no white backgrounds...). Accelerated battery aging is even less frequently mentioned and it's very real, especially with AOD on. Garmin won't mind if now all these fancy Amoled watches have to be replaced at a faster rate ;)

Hey… thanks for the great work… don’t you think there is a case for a Forerunner 965 vs Epix 8 video? Aside from the build, looks you basically get the same training tool and features at almost half price with the 965 vs the Epix 8? Is Garmin losing it?

It’s always been the case that the top tier forerunner was essentially a plastic Fenix… that’s sort of what’s going on here too. The Fenix 8 has a lot of hardware advantages but at a software level they’re nearly the same watch.

I have a 7x solar sapphire and an mk3 (for diving). So I have the direct comparison between mip and amoled. The amoled is cool but I agree with the guy who said it is distracting. I don’t need to watch videos or pictures on my wrist. The only real advantage is when viewing maps but mip is good enough for me. The brighter the conditions, the more awesome the contrast on the mip. And you can literally go on vacation for a week or two and leave the charger at home. The solar on the 7x however is a joke. I also had an instinct 2 which actually charged when left in the sun. The 7x only pretends to, though it’s cool to have the lux meter widget. So with all this, if the enduro 3 actually has a functioning solar, it would be my choice. But I’ll wait so see real life reports on the solar.

yes, 7x solar just pretends to solar itself...

Amoled is very good looking, true, but the clock shows numbers, amoled is not necessary for that. Also battery with MIP is superior, so for me MIP is the best. Also, I want to use the clock, it's not an accessory for me. MIP has very good quality and I like solar option even it is not a total game changer but it's a nice addition. I don't dive and I have a phone with me all the time (imho too much).

My curiosity: what will be your next watch that you will wear permanently? or will you continue to wear the Garmin FR965? or maybe FR975? Instinct 3? by the way Enduro 3

Do people in the US use voice commands to their phone a lot? Obviously people must use this, else it would be in the google/apple shelf of shame by now - even at the cost of losing the ability to spy on people. However, I have literally never seen anyone use a voice command where I live. None of my friends use them etc. I have some friends in a different country who set timers on their alexa, but they are literally the only people I know who use them. Yet, the fenix 8 has a microphone as a core flagship feature. Just curious.

Thanks some guy on the Internet. I think my next Garmin may be a micro-led one but I'll wait for at least one iteration for them to get all the kinks out. Until then my trusty low cost 255 MIP watch is good enough for me. I like the plastic watch back - they have the fewest issues with allergies although I'm guessing titanium would be pretty inert too? And the MIP display is still my favorite - I'd recommend people use a watch face that's black on white during day and switches to white on black only at night, black on white is way more visible in bright sun. Since I always have my phone with me somewhere (even when running I wear a vest to put the phone in) all the other battery consuming features of the higher priced Garmins are wasted on me. If money were no object then maybe - although seriously, those bigger sizes are huge and phat!

Enduro 1 has been so great for me I feel like I don't need a replacement. If I lose less than half battery after a 26 hour ultra with constant screen usage and using the flash light a couple times the boost in battery to Enduro 2 doesn't matter as much for me. Although the clearer screen might be nicer. Also Garmin is really great with product support. After a couple years the start/stop button was jammed and I tried to fix it. I mentioned it to them and they instantly gave me a return / replacement and I've got a new Enduro 1. Garmin is just a brand I trust from their actions and it does everything I need.

I have an original Venu. The battery needs charging twice a day and the Amoled screen is fading quickly. I like the amoled. My eyesight isn't what it used to be, so a bright display is a big benefit. I'm leaning towards the 51mm Fenix Saphire/Ti. I tend to keep my gear till it dies, so the cost difference isn't a huge deal over the long term. It is damb pricey though. My one concern is that since the battery only needs to be charged occasionally, it will likely last a lot longer. That make the amoled display the weak point. Then again, maybe amoled longevity has improved since my venu was made.

MIP vs Amoled and big plus for battery in size 51 - take into account that frequent and rapid discharge destroys the battery. And dont forget about the fact that you probably need sometime started activity with gps and other measurement. About the map - I prefer mobile display for map study.

Love the video! But, it raises another two questions. Since these watches are expensive, I plan on having one for a long time. Since the o rings on the enduro may dry rot, is the 8 a better choice for longevity? And if I buy a enduro from play better and don’t like the way the maps look will they take it back so I can get the amoled 8?
@ChaseTheSummit3 ай бұрын
The O-Ring thing isn't a huge deal. I have a Fenix 1 from 2012 that was used for swimming and showered with and to this day still works while relying on the "old button" technology. That said, the new button tech is super cool and the fact that it's literally impossible for water to penetrate the watch is nice peace of mind. But not totally necessary. When it comes to Playbetter... Yes if you don't like how it looks they will happily take your return. They are Garmin Authorized sellers but also understand if it's not what you expected they need to take it back... that's why I promote them!

I like MIP because I want the display to always be on and I like the solar option too, so my choice is narrowed down to those versions of the 51" Fenix and the Enduro. I'm not a diver, but I do a lot of ocean swimming. Currently using an Instinct 2 solar. If I did buy an Amoled, it would be the Tactix, because I really like the red shift mode and there is also a green tactical display mode. I like the bezel of the tactix too. I'm assuming a Tactix 8 will be arriving soon and I think I am going to wait for that.

Kind of regret switching from the 6X pro to the new AMOLED. It’s WAYY harder to see in bright sunlight when riding by bike and running. Plus, the gesture feature doesn’t work on the 8 when I wear it on the inside of my wrist during my runs which totally sucks. I may return it. MIP is SO good for sunny visibility.

Quick question about the display sizes: We installed a 1.4 inch display on both the 2 Enduro and 3 Enduro series. I would like to install a tempered glass, but there is no suitable one for the 3 series yet. Is the total area (including solar) the same size? The solar area has been increased, but the bezel has been made narrower. Thank you in advance!

Enduro 3 is Sapphire so it doesn't really need a screen protector. If you must have one I'd suggest shopping by size. Measure the glass with calipers or a fine ruler and then search for that size in terms of millimeters on amazon.
