The difference between the Tactix Pro and the Tactix Pro with this AB software is $300, which is insane. Sure, it would be nice to have on your wrist, but $300 is wildly overpriced for what, at the end of the day, is one additional watch app.

I wouldn’t say it’s “wildly” overpriced but I DO wish that I didn’t have to KEEP buying the same app. I mean, I have Applied Ballistics on my Kestrel (which I paid extra for, to have the app on it) my SIG Kilo 3000BDX and a Lite version on my phone. Seems like you should only have to purchase the software ONCE; instead of having to pay extra on each and every device that you buy. It does seem a little smarmy the way AB gets you on every device. All that said, Applied Ballistics software, particularly their Elite version, IS what ALL other ballistic software programs are judged against. It IS, flat out, the best ballistic calculator on the planet. So, if you want to shoot small groups or make a cold bore hit on a bucket list, once-in-a-lifetime animal, the price will be WELL worth it! This watch is NOT meant for the weekend shooter that thinks 300yds is a long shot or a guy that hunts meat on a family property - you can accomplish this with much less expensive gear. This watch is designed for guys shooting much further distances in more challenging conditions. It really won’t help you (in anything other than still wind and ideal conditions) if you don’t have a weather station like a Kestrel to provide you accurate wind and other vital environmental data. This means you have to have, or invest in, additional expensive items to take full use of this watch. While I don’t care for the additional cost, like so many other LR shooters I have so many thousands of dollars invested in my shooting gear (to even contemplate purchasing this Tactix) that $300 is almost insignificant. So, if $300 for the software is a major consideration, I’d suggest you likely don’t have the prerequisite gear you need to take full use of the software; making the watch a bad choice. I’d be investing in weather reading gear with possibly a great range finder (like SIG Kilo 3000BDX) and another, less expensive ballistic calculator - one that, if possible, can connect to your calculator. This will provide you with a adequate calculation more quickly and without you having to do lots of manual entry in changing conditions. Sorry for the long comment but I hope it helps you or someone.

@@dtom420 AB is like the Intel Inside vs AMD when buying a laptop. The Core is licensed to the companies that make the products. Those companies then either have us, or in Garmin's case self implement them into the devices. They then set the prices of the product. The reason that a license on a Kestrel doesn't transfer to a Garmin is because those products belong to Kestrel and Garmin (just as an example) and they have to implement their own cores. Often times this requires adapting them to the specific needs of the devices (you cannot just plop the chip into both devices and it magically works). They require maintenance, updates, bug fixes that are independent to the products. This is a simplified explanation but hopefully it helps. - Doc

Do you have to have a value in the ssf-elevation and the ssf-wind for it to work properly? Tried with 0 in both and doesn't seem to figure any of the factors after that. Also tried it with the 1.0 and it puts my shots way high at the 200 yard range after adjusting to what it says.

Are you able to input values on your phone and send to your watch? Like when setting up multiple target distances for a stage in a match? It seems like it’ll take a while trying to do it all on the watch

@@DocBeech Well that’s a bummer, I wouldn’t be worried about profiles as I can just do that at home. I’m more worried about walking up to a stage, I’m first or second shooter, and trying to input all the targets so I could use it like a dope card

I use this when shooting matches. Is there a way to add wind direction for each target? Or is the wind direction capture on the main screen and then updated for each target based on the direction of fire? Also the direction of fire seem to be not captured correctly. If you point the watch in the direction of the target and it says 360deg on the watch and you captured it, the direction of for changes to 341 deg for instance.

When entering your ballistic information into the garmin watch, there is no option to enter your environmental data when you did your sight in like on the AB app. Why is that?

Ideally temp/humidity would be captured as well; probably not feasible since it is attached to a warm (or cold) wrist. Assuming no internet or access to wx data at firing location, it will be up to user to estimate. Temp is easier to estimate, not sure if I can estimate humidity accurately. Which brings up question of how does this affect firing solution for ELR purposes...Say its a 338WM at 1500 meters....doesn't take much to miss. (Never mind windage for now). I should make a sensitivity analysis of temp/humidity and see if it really matters. For example - lets say I estimate the temp to be 2C but it is actually 6C (perhaps I think its colder than it is - given wind) and lets say I think its 50% humidity and it is actually 75% humidity. How will this affect my dope at 1500 meters with a 285gr Lapua 338wm bullet for my rifle? I'm assuming elevation data from watch is accurate. Also DOF is a factor and user will have to make sure to take that reading with watch aimed at target. Probably could use a best practice guideline Bryan if this is on your radar.

In order to account for this, you can use the Garmin Temp. This way the atmospheric device is external. Humidity is almost a non factor, only changing the firing solution by 0.3% across the entire spectrum when shooting medium distances under a mile. You can set this to 50% and generally ignore it. The third option is to use a larger band and place the watch OVER the top of your clothing to help as well. - Doc

This watch with aplied balistics is an absolute disaster! Every time I change my environmentals it changes my muzzle velocity to 200fps... Every single time. And if I connect my kilo 3000 every single time I press the range button the watch shutdown.

Garmin has informed me that there is an issue with the Garmin firmware on the watch that cause the watch to shutdown when connected to a rangefinder with Bluetooth
