The thing is, not only was that last part excluded in the manga (the short amv about memories of Garp I mean) but this entire sequence didn’t make me even shed a tear in the manga. And that’s not because it’s bad not at all! But just because manga is a bunch of still pictures so it’s harder to get emotional over them. It is the job of anime or, in this case, editors like him to bring those pictures to life and strike a cord with the audience. And that’s exactly what AbuManga did right here, using music, sound effects and additional scenes not included in the manga to make us feel something. So while Oda is technically responsible for my reaction, the one who made me feel it to the point of tearing up was AbuManga.
