That shell casing is from semi auto rifle and casing is folded from not self ejecting properly and getting jammed between the bolt and the breach. Common issue when you don't clean and oil your moving parts regularly.

American gold miners used to hide gold inside of bullet casings. So you might get luck and have some gold.

I do know yes, at first i just used the detector but a pinpointer makes life a lot easier.
