I wish Garrett made a T3 housing option that pushed the compressor housing away just a tiny bit to allow for better oil drain. Garret turbos have and still suck for oil drain in comparison to the manifold directly below it. My last gtx3078 the oil draiun was touching the vband and made it really difficult to put the turbo on and take off.

Hi guys. Great review . The g30 770 what turbine housing would you suggest for 2.35 Subaru 0.61 ?? Or the larger 0.8 ? Have theese g30 770 turbos made 600 odd bhp on any Subaru's yet as struggling to find any info . Realise a lot of other factors in this , cams , head work etc boost . Cheers

A vid on the BW SX range would be good, seems there's some new ones out, it's an awesome range but there's so many it makes it hard to choose the right one, eg efr7670, 8374, 8474 rough equivalents, cheers man

@TurboDirect S.A - K20A2 built motor, 11.0:1 Compression spring retainer motor. We are planning to run 600whp at 9200rpm, im trying to find a turbo that will work for a mixture of low boost Autox (400whp) and Street (600whp). Looking for something that will spool before 4krpm that can meet both conditions. Is the G30-770 one of these? is there anyway you could help me with a plot?

In the process of getting a gen 2 gtx 3076r for my 2.0 t cobalt ss , going to run a .63 ar on the turbine housing for a better spool time , just hoping it will still make good numbers with the smaller ar turbine housing , ordered the comp housing in a T51r mod waiting on it to get here , then Gonna order the chra next , wish more companies made t3 style exhaust manifolds for my car , the company’s are very limited but cannot wait to get this turbo on my car , zero people I know of have this turbo on their turbo cobalt , everyone runs a borg 7163 or a s257sxe borg , plan on trying to surpass the limits these guys have with the 7163 turbo

The GTX3076R Gen2 is a proven and good performing turbo. I wouldn't change the comp housing, the turbo works and works very well in stock format. You will be surprised at the performance of the 7163 being a considerably smaller turbo than the 3076 -- Beating the S200SXE (650HP model) --- not so easy, the 3076 will have a hard time there.

hey mate !i am looking for a turbo but i cant decide what whould be better for my astra opc 4 cylinder 2,0 liter. i want to have spool as much low as its possible.but i also want a lot of power in high.. i am thinking about gtx3071 gen 2 or g30 770? i have to say that i want at least 680hp but at the same time i want the spool from low.... what do you suggest?thanks a lot,sorry for my english

Awesome video. Shame the G series only has a V band in option. Most people including myself have a T3 inlet. Does anyone know if I can use my GTX3076 Gen 2. housing for a G 30-770 centre? I know i'll lost the stainless housing upgrade but I have a blanket anyway and don't want to swap my expensive steampipe manifold.

We will have many housing options coming out soon to retro the GTX to Gseries - the existing options from Garrett wont work as the connection on the Gseries uses Vband and the GTX uses 6bolts with flanges.

Great chanel!Thank you for the good informative vidéo.I got a vw1.8t 20vt paired whit a Garrett Gt3076r t3.63 and i am seeing full boost 27psi a 4000rpm.I whant to go whit a bigger turbo but not loosing response so im in between Gtx3076r gen1,Gtx3076r gen2.The gen2 is more powerfull i understand but is it gonna spool later than the gen1?

BobbyChubby69 i would suggest you look at the Gen2 GTX3071R this will spool the same as your GT3076R or slightly better. The HP increase will go from 525HP to 650HP - if this isn't enough then you will have to sacrifice some lag for the Gen2 GTX3076R -- these are the affordable options, the G30 series costs more but obviously makes more power too.

Can anyone comment on how the G30-770 would work in a 4 cylinder 2.0 liter Golf R with a built motor? Wondering if the slower spool up would be livable or not? Awesome video thanx for the explanation that was great! Just wait I was looking for!

The G30-770 is only available in vband im afraid, its not difficult to make an adapter from T3 to Vband - if this is what you really aim to do.

Dean this depends on so many things, tuning, fuel, boost, ignition advance, cam timing etc etc --- unless installed onto a car (same car) and tuned (yes the tuning will be different, very different) its impossible to say, but expect ESTIMATED around 500RPM difference at least

How efficient is the internal housing on the garret g-30 770 housings. Does it compare to a tial external gate. What would you choose for daily driven. I have always used externals but wanted to save space. 1.8 engine 20psi

The Garrett IWG housings are not able to hold their own against the likes of BorgWarner with their internal designs, Tial will more than likely be better aswell. The mass produced Garrett is made as simple as possible to churn out the product in the highest numbers for the least amount of money - EFR and other brands are not designed for the masses, they are race derived, and improved products with attention to detail in mind - they will always be a much better product than Garrett.

How is the spool difference between the G30-770 and G30-660? Is the 770 slower or faster spool than the 660?

There is around 200-300RPM difference across the entire RPM range, however on a vehicle, this is noticeable. The larger diameter compressor holds a heavier mass, and there is slightly more shaft power required to rotate the larger higher flowing compressor. Once in full swing, the obvious power difference will be noticed of course.

No they wont work - the older GTX use 6 bolt flanges, and the G-series us vband to secure the bearing housing into the turbine housing.

When they say 660 or 770 does that mean crank or whp? I am looking to buy a g30-660 .82 but i am afraid it wont hit my 500whp goal mark on my 1jz vvti with 264 cams. I keep hearing mixed answers

There is a rudimentary rule of thumb - for every 10lb/min or air flow, there should be approximately (conservatively) 100HP produced by the engine -- so this power will be measured at the crank. To make 500WHP with the G30-660 you will have to push this turbo to its limits, rather opt for something that is proven to make this power and still have some in reserve.

@@pourtierbeatz7804 I would consider the EFR range to be honest, you getting alot more for your money, and the compressor maps are proven to produce the power in comparison to the G-series which is lacking. EFR spools faster, has better cooling, more reliable cartridge, etc

Identical turbos, the 30 has a larger turbine. Nothing else changes.

Sup bro? I’m thinking of getting g30-770. I drive a 1M and may track it but want to do some good pools and drifts in town. Lots of guys tell me to get the gtx 3585rs but I don’t want slow spoil and lag and big power way later. Thoughts? Will 770 still hit hard? Thx

Hi Chris, somewhat quick question for you. I have a 1jz vvti in my jzx100 chaser. Its currently running an old gt3082r and im looking to upgrade the setup and switch over to e85. Looking at a power goal of 500-550rwhp, with some headroom for more futurw mods but trying to keep it as responsive as possible. Im tossing up between the g30-770 and the g30 900. What do you recommend? My worry is if i run the 770 ill be pushing it to its limit and it will produce high IAT's. Thanks mate.

Buddy look at this video - kzbin.info/www/bejne/h5m0eKpqZcyXe7M and then this video -- kzbin.info/www/bejne/sJCld3-Kptinpbs What i want to share with you is the compressor maps and "specifications" of the EFR7670 and the G30-770 so that you can get an idea of what these two options offer and why the EFR is actually a far better option for various reasons, specifically for the smaller 1JZ CID engine. The 1JZ doesnt have the larger CID (cubic inch displacement) to spool a turbo as well as the larger 2JZ - so the lightweight turbine design of the EFR is perfect for these smaller engines, and the compressor is more than able to provide power right into the high Engine RPM range of the 1JZ without falling off like the Garrett 770 will. Ill do a new comparison video with the G30-770 and the EFR7670 aswell as the G30-900 and the EFR7670 and later on the EFR8474 Black Series (which is unfair on the G30-900) even though the G30-900 claims to produce 900HP, against the 8474's 950HP - there is a hidden secret in the 8474 map though.

I'm not gonna lie I've been eyeballing the G35-1050 in comparison to the EFR8474 I have sitting here. It seems like that would be the apples to apples comparison in terms of wheel size on the compressor side. I'm moving to a new state next month and then will proceed with fabrication and install of all my build. I'm thinking I should hit around 650-700whp or so without nitrous. What I'm also wondering is if I should have just kept my EFR7670 on (I still have it) to hit this goal and have a much more streetable car. I could probably return the 8474 and take a small ding on restocking. The casting on the turbo looks a lil' rough...but seems to be the norm for Borg on these turbos. Anyways, thanks for all that you do/educate on.

@@mrfumetsu The 8474 is a direct comparison to the GTX35 and G35-1050 -- it will actually outspool, and outperform the garrett easily. I would run this instead of the 7670 as you want to produce more power than the 7670 is capable of.

@@TurboDirectSA I'm just worried it's going to be too laggy...i was shooting for 650-700whp. just slightly out of reach for the 7670... but now i'm just worried i overshot my goal with the 8474 and i'm leaving some powerband off the table so to speak. can anyone give me their opinion of a g30-770 0.83ar in a bmw s50 6 cylinder 3.2L engine, i want to run a comfortable 500-550 whp with realtively quick spool up at 2000-3000rpm and not really work the turbo too hard nor redline the engine to get its performance (redlines at 7000rpm btw). is that acheivable through the g30-770? thanks in advance.

With the G-series turbos, you will be pushing the turbo harder than you should to make this power. The claimed HP from Garrett on their printed catalogues is overrated, compared directly to their corresponding compressor maps - i would use a larger turbo than required or use a brand that does not need to overrate their HP claims - to be safe and achieve the power goals you have in mind.

@@user-yd4rk4gv6k All Garrett G-series turbochargers are overrated in HP. I would consider the EFR8370, it will outspool the G-series turbos and produce the claimed HP and more. It is more reliable, runs cooler, and the rotating assembly has a much slower rotating RPM, which increases the ball bearing life. The ball bearing cartridge is larger than the Garrett, and will support higher HP, and more punishment should you decide to track the car.

I have a celica 2zz ge with gtx2971 .64 a/r. About 500 crank hp. I want to raise it a little bit more to 550 bhp but without sacrifice my spool. Which turbo you think is more suitable for my goals ?

You basically have the old GT3071R turbine wheel (not GTX) with a GTX compressor running inside the old GTX3071R Gen1 comp housing - you got this in two trims -- 84trima and the 90trim - the difference is the turbine wheel is large in the 90trim and you should have a slightly higher HP output on this 90-trim model. To up this some - i would install the GTX3071R Gen2 comp wheel and your done, just make sure you running the T3 volute family turbine housing otherwise if not, and you are running the GT28 housings, upgrading the compressor will cause alot of heat trying to drive the larger higher flowing compressor on the other side.

I have question, if i switch to T3 housing as you said and use a flange that is T25 one side and T3 on the other would it work ?? Cause my header is T25 along with my turbo housing right now.... Also as i see that you are perfectly informed, this combo that you suggest me is nice and cheap choice but for.my info the g30-660 how would be in terms of spool and top.end vs the gtx3071 gen2 ?

@@panagiotismvagusta6014 If you planning on changing the turbo entirely - i would simply bolt on the EFR7163 with T25 turbine housing and get done with it - it will take you to 550WHP with that engine you have with VERY fast spool. Remember you are currently using the T28 AR86 turbine housing, the BorgWarner EFR7163 uses the AR85 T28 housing volute, and the turbine wheel weighs 35-40% less than your GT30 turbine head does - its internally gated and includes EVERYTHING you need for a bolt on install -- your DP flange will have to change to a vband which is not the end of the world. We have seen 550WHP on the Golf7R platform with this turbo - so it will definately work. If you want to upgrade the turbo and not change it - then you must change the housings -- to keep the turbo reliable.

Hi, great vids as always. I have a 4 cylinder 2.3l turbo I want 600whp I was looking at the Gtx3076r gen 2 but will the G30 770 give me better spool time. I'm aiming for boost @ 3000rpm or lower right to 8000rpm any advice on a turbo. Why don't you guys do twin scroll? Thank you in advance

Thanks for your comment - the G30 will not spool up faster than the GTX30R the turbine dimensions are the same, and there is a slight difference in weight of the turbine wheel aswell - in the favour of the GTX model. The compressor is said to flow more than the GTX, however in tests we have done back to back on the same engine, same dyno, same day show different. The GTX3076R Gen2 is proven and dynamite!

@@odin5188 You wont get much better spool with the G30-660, and for the price it is certainly not worth it. If you are thinking of spending money on changing turbos, i would consider a turbo that will do exactly what you want it to do - its an expensive exercise and choosing the right product is key.

Thanks Johan - the EFR7163 is be far a better, more reliable and cost effectvie solution which will spool faster and make the advertised power in comparison to the Garrett option - the G25's do not make the power claimed, and are laggy compared to the EFR range.

@@caesar1328 There is absolutely no difference in fitting the EFR to the Garrett - or any other brand for that matter. You can forget about making 1400HP with the 660 and 770 turbos - at max boost pressure you will be lucky to see 1200HP with the 770's in twin configuration.

@@caesar1328 Physical size using Garrett turbos is going to take up more space than the EFR as you need gates added to the equation. The EFR's dont. The EFR is not as big as you assume they are. We carry both brands in stock - however we wont advise for the sake of a sale - what we advise to clients works - period. Other companies will sell you what they have on the shelf regardless of whether the setup is perfectly suited to your requirements or not, and then make excuses later - we dont.

The only difference is the turbine wheel is larger - the rest of the turbocharger is 100% identical. Use for larger engines where you want to be able to hold higher HP in higher engine RPM is where you would opt for the G30 instead of the much smaller G25

@@TurboDirectSA so i bought a g30/660 with a .83 ar housing and was wondering if i could just buy the 770 supercore and use the same a/r housing i have on my g30/660 to prevent having to buy an a/r housing for the 770 also

@@pourtierbeatz7804 Yes you can - the 770 uses the identical components (except the compressor wheel) as the 660 - everything is interchangeable.

not going to happen very soon I'm afraid, but what will happen very soon (inside of the next 3 months) is these turbochargers including the bolt on units we developing currently will be installed and tested on a real engine - its not a 4 banger, its a 1JZ which is fully built and ready for various turbo installs - this car will remain on the dyno for all tests, and will be tuned with three different ECU's -- electromotive, AEM, Speeduino. Coming soon.

Chris Kambouris nice look forward to the results. I am currently about to install a g30 770 onto an already built 2.2. We will try both exhaust housings but hopefully the .6 will do it without compressor surge.

Hi chris Regarding your coment, to an example or that 1jz, for you, rated to 700hp What is Best setup ? The g30-900 Or g35-900 or g35-1050

@@heberrodrigues3903 On the 1JZ - being a laggy setup especially without VVT, this is a broad topic - ill make a quick video explaining this to you in the next hour and post it for you, it will shed some light on other builds aswell from the info ill share - ill post it onto this comment section shortly.

I do believe it will - like any turbine stage pulse separation does yield a benefit, but Garrett don't have a twin scroll housing option for some strange reason.

@@Grimgrak1 Yes i do, however this will not be on their priority radar for a number of reasons - there are other bolt on vehicle specific products that are higher up on their to do list right now. In the mean time i will design a housing for this - as we manufacture our own housings already for the previous Gen GT/GTX turbochargers

@@Grimgrak1 no it's much better, it's made from Stainless. The casting is also not a standard sand casting, we use investment casting. We exhibited our housings for the first time at SEMA in 2012, its a product that competes head on with the Tial product, and has a number of features that overcome the main issues with the competition at half the price.

all the dribble ends at about 3.45 = blah blah ? TURBOS And i saw you bashed the exducer wheel on the housing when moving it in and out = your shockingly nervous - calm down be careful ! ;
