very valuable information thank you Steve. My Garrett pinpointer has always worked well and I rebalance it when I use it in salt water conditions by the beach and then up to the picnic grounds. but I never knew that by holding the button down for one second would rebalance it right away to the beach or highly mineralized areas. thank you again

thanks Gig Im learning a lot from you another thing I learn is that the energizer battery's are a tiny bit shorter then the copper top battery's,, if you add a tiny but of padding in the top cap it makes it tighter and I have found the energizer lats longer than the Duracell copper top battery's

In the later part of the video, it would be interesting to see if it was size or density would affect it. Maybe use a $20 gold, a silver half, and a clad half to see if there's a difference. The mineralized soil reset is very useful. Do other pinpointers have that feature?

This was such a helpful video and Steve, your enthusiasm makes you a marvelously relatable and charming teacher! I especially appreciated your demonstration of the importance of scanning around the side of the hole instead of only "poking" down into it. Also, that last distance test,with the various settings and target sizes was set up perfectly to simplify the concept you were trying to convey. Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience and knowledge with the rest of us! Merry Christmas!
@memoryrinehart5 жыл бұрын
Exactly how mine performed til I against my better judgment put it underwater as is. It leaked and caused it to malfunction (wouldn't stop beeping). I dried out but it has lost its sensitivity for good. Also keeps beeping after moving away from a target. It's under warranty. Was it necessary to put silicon around threads before dunking? I submerged it briefly a couple times early on without trouble. The running stream was too much for it.

@danyardinvt4025 жыл бұрын
Hi, this is a great channel. I just got my equinox 800 but we have three feet of snow on the ground so I am watching videos instead of detecting. I use the rebalance to narrow in on small targets. As I move the pinpointer near the target as soon as it starts to beep I stop and push the button. Now, it won’t beep again at that distance. Move the pinpointer some more and you will see that the beep zone is smaller. Stop at the edge of the beeping and press the button again. It will again narrow down the detection zone. If you do this several times, the pinpointer will not beep until it is basically touching the target.
@Gigmaster5 жыл бұрын
Danin Vermont Good job! I do that all the time. Makes you more efficient at recovery.

What sensitivity do you usually run at? I know they recommend medium because I can be too sensitive in some scenarios so I was just wondering what you usually use yours at
@Gigmaster3 жыл бұрын
Max
@jasontheflyingfarrierhays Жыл бұрын
Depending on environment. At the beach, max. In areas with less trash in the ground, when I’m coin shooting, level 2 sensitivity. When I’m detecting in super trashy ground, lowest level sensitivity. I’m sure Gig Master has tons more experience than me and can read a hole well enough to keep his pin pointer on max sensitivity. Hope that helps!

Hey Steve, good stuff. I’’m still learning. Bought an AT Pro with the Garrett pin pointer. Little confused on how to use it well at the beach in wet sand or in the water. I’ve tried to repeatedly ground balance it in wet sand but not having much luck. Digging holes for nothing. I live by the beach in S Florida. Yesterday I found a large coin in dry sand, completely corroded but I see silver underneath now after numerous cleaning attempts. I have it soaking in lemon juice now. Tried all the other methods, i.e., ginger and salt, baking soda, etc. its about the size of a silver dollar but thinner. It looks like an old silver piece from another country but wont know until I get the corrosion off. Any tips? Its the only valuable I have found, other stuff just loose change. Anyway, good stuff. Thx.

I have the Garrett AT pinpointer but have others also because when I'm on a really nice lawn I make a very small hole about 2" across, the Garrett is not the best in that situation because it sounds off on the sides as you have said and shown in this vid, I use a marine pinpointer in that situation because it only sounds off on the very end so I know exactly where the target is. Cheers.

After watching your video, and I have to say, they are always informative. I am wondering, though, whether you stated correctly how many modes the Carrot has. I've noticed 6 modes. 1,2,3 beeping modes, and 1,2, 3 silent modes, or vibrate modes. I really did learn a couple more things about the Carrot in this video and thanks for that. I didn't know about the reset mode. It will help me in future hunts!!
@Gigmaster6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! There are only 3 sensitivity settings but they each have 2 selections either vibrate or vibrate and sound. So I guess 3 sensitivity settings with 6 modes? I think we are both saying the same thing 2 different ways. I'll keep learning!

Thank YOU for being so informative! I just reset our Garrett carrots. I like it on the second beep sensitivity mode, but had a hard time getting them to cooperate. Less options are better in my world - on & off would be great. But I can appreciate the quiet mode sometimes! Now we are ready to hit the beaches this weekend! Oh, and I did not know about the re-set function. Sometimes it goes crazy in salt water. But not anymore......! Spell check “feel” the buzz.

If you order a Garrett on Amazon or E-bay, etc. READ THE FINE PRINT and look to see where it's shipped from. There is a company in China (Hong Kong) that is producing a pinpointer that looks exactly like the Garrett carrot and retailing it for about a quarter of the price. Read the "fine print" and know you're getting an actual Garrett, otherwise you'll end up with a generic version that has fewer features and, specifically, has almost no sensitivity - maybe only an inch at best.

Higher sensitivity can also make it beep/vibrate in highly mineralized soil. You need different sensitivity for different soils/ground conditions.
