I love the naysayers. Never touched or have even seen this machine in person. But you’re 1000% sure it’s a pile of crap. Garrett NEVER said that they are going to put out a machine that will compete with Minelab, Nokta or any other of the major players. Garrett builds quality machines that are made in America at a mid-level price point that will be purchased by a certain type of detectorist. Was it released to compete with the Deus 2 or the Manticore? No. And anyone with a half a brain knows that. Minelab makes a great machine but I will never own one because their coils are way over priced. Nokta Legend great machine. I sold it because I could not read or see the screen. Deus. Sorry too expensive. I know many will blow me up like a birthday balloon and that ok. Garrett could produce the “perfect” machine with a price point of $50 and you naysayers would still find fault with it. My gosh get a grip on reality. It’s a freaking hobby and these are nothing but toys to pass the time with.
@Jbonn61413 ай бұрын
I'll stick with my nokta legend. The vortex won't compete with similar priced detectors. Why would anyone buy a subpar detector for the same price?

@andrewwilson83177 ай бұрын
The biggest problem is the competition. The long gestation taken by Garrett has resulted in rivals stealing a march with superior products at the same price point. A Minelab x-terra pro and elite are price rivals that leave it for dead! Nokta Makro Simplex is amazing value for money and the range only gets better from there. An XP deus 2 lite is in the zone, and we all know how beautiful their audio processing and customisation is. I hate to say it but it’s all uphill for Garrett. Their best asset is hordes of brand loyal Americans who put made in America badging above performance. They want an American machine to be the best and, in my humble opinion, deserve better.

Well, that’s a beauty of testing in the real world you don’t get to choose. I’ve never been a fan of Gardens or nailbed test. And I feel like the judge of Metal Detector is the real world. For a first look I’m pretty happy with that though. I believe more testing needs to be done.

@@GoneDiggin i remeber when the apex came out and there was a small very dedicated group of individuals that made a bad final judgement on it all loosely based on test gardens and nail test and yes this can give a great way to get an understanding on a how machines work but i think the majority of us are looking for objects that are naturally lost and buried not intentionally buried and so i would have to say that would be the best way to judge these machines in the feild

Challenge seems to be that it doesn't differentiate itself compared to the other similar priced machines that are well established and on gen 2+ of what Garrett is just releasing. I wouldn't expect it to be a poor performing machine, but if it is no better from what is out there, seems like only Garrett followers will be considering it.

How many detectors out there can display the ferrous and conductive properties of a target? Only the FBS machines as far as I know, until the Vortex came along. How many can display more than one target at a time? Only the CTX-3030 and Manticore until the Vortex came along. Those are two strong selling points.
@metaldetectingOK7 ай бұрын
The Legend displays ferrous compared to nok ferrous content. This machine does no more than that, it could be two targets but it could also be just one with multiple properties, the screen will tell no more than ferro check on the Legend. It doesn't display more than one target on the screen, just the different properties under the coil, just like every modern upper end detecor. This machine is just 15% of the features and capabilities of other detectors with new names for marketing purposes@Mr.Technical77

@@Mr.Technical77 it doesn't show anymore than a ferro check would. I can tell if there is iron and non-ferrous under the coil on other machines. The XY screen on Minelab is way better. Nothing new. The tones are sounding quite bad on that particular Vortex. It would be nice if they offered tone options, but that does not seem to be available. Oh wait.. I'm sure they will bring it out later for a FEE. It's pretty sad when a Minelab X Terra Pro outperforms this Vortex in the tone options department. It's my least favorite detector yet it sounds a lot better than the Vortex did in this video. I don't think Garrett did themselves any good with this Vortex. Unless something has radically changed in the final product versus this prototype, it's gonna be a regular "for sale" item on ebay due to original owner being so disappointed.

Tone wise at least there is NO COMPARISON. Performance wise from the video, recovery speed seems very slow as well. A noticeable delay between coil sweep and tone response. Prototype though, so there could have been multiple optimizations from that to the final product. However unless they make some sweeping changes even a Nokta Simplex BT will kick this things read end. The Double Score would bury it. The Legend would be like using a maul to drive a nail against this Vortex.
