I'm not against the pay to upgrade model. I've had 2 machines that I would have liked to be able to pay to upgrade. The F22 did not come with the ability to ground balance but the F44 had it in the software and the ORX did not have iron audio volume like the Deus. I would have paid a small fee for a special release to upgrade those two machines. Coins are getting harder to find in the Midwest as well. Especially on the Tot-Lots over the last 5-10 years kids just don't carry change around like they used to. I'm tempted to buy the VX9 when it comes out I also like simple and one of my favorite machines was very simple to operate the MX5 by Whites. I've been swinging the Legend and it's not what I would call a "simple" machine not as complex as the Etrac or V3i but still lots of submenus, icons, and hidden features that I find myself looking at the manual in the field more often than I would like.

Many are puzzled by the lack of adjustable options and no auto-noise cancel on the Vortex. For a new detector in 2024 it just seems like there have been some odd omissions, especially given what is out there now for the same money or less. However, it all comes down to performance. Does it do what they say it can do and does it do a better job than its competition? All questions waiting to be answered. I have some reservations but I believe in testing something yourself before passing judgment. If it works for me that is the only thing that matters 👍

I currently own an equinox 800 with a 15 inch coil and am struggling, I think the coins may be deeper or I may need a helper to swing longer. Just a thought. The downloadable upgrades make sense, they only need one production run to sell three different machines, but as a consumer it rubs me a bit of the wrong way, like my machine COULD be better, but it isnt due to a programming lock, theres a website called defective by design, and i feel this metal detector qualifies to be listed on that website
@MD-NWWI6 ай бұрын
So if you bought the nokta score would you feel the same way? Your detector is locked at a low level ? Now you want to upgrade to the double score. Then you know it's capable of more because now there is a triple score. Seriously take a look. It's all the same hardware! Same with the xterra pro and elite vs the equinox detectors. It's all the same hardware. That's why the coils are all interchangeable... Where do you think the cost of a metal detector comes from? The hardware is cheap. It probably costs a fraction of the overall price. The real cost of a metal detector comes fun the research and development to create the features and programs that customers want and are willing to pay for. So how is it so bad to be asked to pay for the options you want? Oh wait you would rather buy another 4 to 500 dollar metal detector.
@digginggopher6 ай бұрын
@@MD-NWWI you make some good points, but one advantage to having separate detectors is you could keep the old one as a spare, or a lender, or you could sell it to make some money back, my legend speaker just broke, and lucky I have a deus I could use in the meantime while the shop is repairing my legend But I do agree that having 3 sinplexes, 4 equinoxes, 3 scores is kinda crazy, the Xterra I will give a pass too because they came out so far from each other, and it has MF and such, it's like a different detector I was pissed FOR the people who bought a double score, because they probably would have got the triple score if they all came out at the same time But the triple score is kinda like downgraded legend, I don't really see much of a diference
@MD-NWWI6 ай бұрын
@digginggopher absolutely it never hurts to have a spare detector. I'm just looking at the future with the Vortex. If they come out with vx11 or 20 I already have the hardware and just need to pay for the upgrade. The xterra pro and elite are exactly the same inside. In fact that's how the xterra pro worked so well in the beach. Beach mode is actually multi frequency. They just won't admit it.
@barry4fish196 ай бұрын
Not enough difference in price among the 3 levels. I think a big majority who will order this detector will just go with the 9. And, echoing what others have said, all these detectors work if you learn how to use them well and employ good searching techniques. I just hope Garrett isn’t releasing the Vortex too early like they did with the Apex, which got lots of bad reviews early, then they pushed out an updated software version to get rid of the bugs and make it way better.

The Vortex is what the Apex should have been. It's got everything that we were disappointed with when the Apex launched (and hey I like my Apex on the beach). The 3 levels of it can replace everything from the Ace 400, the Apex, to all the AT's, they could cut their line down to this. But they wont, because people will still buy the others. I wish the Manticore had 15 hours of battery life. I think its great that the upgrades are software unlocks, so all those people who for irrational reasons bought each step of the Ace as if those were real upgrades - can get real upgrades without creating a bunch of e-waste on the way. Ya so many fewer coins, I spent 7.5 hours at a beach yesterday here in Vancouver. Found $7.50. 1 buck an hour ... and 3 of the coins were Twoonies. Fortunately I also found a nice designer silver bracelet.
@DIG_50506 ай бұрын
"The Vortex is what the Apex should have been. It's got everything that we were disappointed with when the Apex launched (and hey I like my Apex on the beach). " -- I fully agree. I like my Apex but with a few tweaks, i.e., recovery speed, more stable target ID, it could be much better. I don't have a need for water proof enclosure, but I know others do. In one of the Garrett instructional videos, the female speaker touts "upgrade and update ability"...but Garrett has to "upgrade-update" the code, others can't; hence, so far no product improvement. Hasn't been an update since April of 2021(Garrett website says Nov. 2021, but its the same update as released in April of 2021). Heck, I might even agree to pay for an upgrade-update if they would issue one. Like that which is what they want to do with the Vortex. It also seems odd that the Vortex VX5 variant has a few less "detection" features than the Apex, but it is priced higher than that of the Apex. I guess you have to buy new to get the updated unit with the waterproof case. Also makes one wonder if the Apex along with the others you mentioned will get axe'd. 🤔
@Jbonn6141Ай бұрын
Agreed, I was hoping they'd be able to add recovery speed and better stability to the apex but our requests weren't answered. Left us in the dust. The apex will be my last Garret.

Thanks for the video 👌🏼In my opinion, the nail test was not impressive at all when you use brand new nails from the hardware store. Anyone who has been Metal detecting a long time, knows that the very old rusty square nails are the ones that false. We can judge it based on the features that it has which allows it to perform better or worse compared to the competition. Tmachine is $599 plus you have to buy the headphones separate. So you’re going to be spending over $700. It is really lacking in features that help the performance of the detector. I’m not impressed with the features at all! Was hoping for a modern platform.

I’ve been rooting for an American company forever. My first detector in 1973, (Garrett) master hunter. I owned a half dozen of theirs over the years, but years ago they fell behind. The AT pro was a great detector for the day, but ergonomics were horrible, killed my arm, sold it. I loved Whites even more because they started improving ergonomics and the Xlt style was awesome for the time when detectors were heavy. White’s struggled and never got the multi-frequency right. The beachunter ID was a complete joke. Minelab ruled the salt water for 30 years, so happy when Nokta put out the legend, beast built, but I find it very complicated to navigate the menu. Love my deus and deus 2. Rooting for Garrett. Where can we see this Garrett demo in nails, can’t find it

Minelab and fisher came out with multi freq detectors now 30 plus years later they saw the light? the machine looks horrible! screen gets a F- , buttons are complete sand catchers , no programs and functionally is limited at best and they are now saying dont worry dont worry we got updates! I can see why they painted it blue as everyone knows the little green machines were junk on salt water beaches! the Apex was beyond a disaster out of the box only went to 20 khz while Minelab and others are at 40 plus khz! all weighted to small gold! lets be honest Garrett should be out of business! bad companies need to fail! made in the USA with Chinese parts!

Garrettt promised new technology and it is just a variation of what everyone else already has. The 3 bar screen- even the lower end Minelab and Nokta have a ferrous bar and non ferrous bar that lets you see if the target is one or the other or mixture of both. And you get headphones and additional coils all at a less price while the Vortex has...just the machine so add another 250-300 dollars onto it to have the same. What Garrett is touting is just techno babble to disguise they have no new advancements compared to the other companies.
