There more I see of the vortex, the less I am impressed with it. One would surmise that a company whose detectors lag behind all the rest, would produce a machine to get them back in the mix. Unfortunately, I don’t see that with the vortex. I don’t know, but in my opinion, Garrett has failed when their newest machine cannot keep up with cheaper models from other companies.

The real issue is the American companies are simply steps behind. Big (really small) advancements to them were already introduced to us by imported machines....and you can see that by looking at the features of their entry level units! They're ahead of the best offerings from the American brands. Sad to say I think they're no longer seen in the rear view mirror.

I was really hoping that with Garrett owning White's intellectual property that this unit would be closer to an updated V3i, but that's certainly not the case at all. One thing I've realized is that this Vortex isn't for me. My Etrac runs circles around this thing.

The tripple score IMO is probably the best value a person can get right now for a metal detector. The Vortex, unfortunately, is way behind the competition as far as featured go and looking like performance as well. I've got a Vortex on order. I'll have to see how it works in my high mineral soil.
@DIG_5050Ай бұрын
I remember how poorly the Apex worked in your soil in one of your videos. A lot of us have no use for the waterproof feature, but what I see in these few test videos regarding performance, Garrett could have done with an update to the (updatable/upgradable)Apex, then sold the update a la carte to Apex users. Let the users wanting waterproofing and an updated menuing screens purchase the Vortex. Good luck with the Vortex, @RelicsRings. I'm subscribed and will be watching for your test videos.

CBD, thanks for the testing, and saving us a lot of time and hard earned money. Garrett has their head in the sand. The only hope for selling these is a low priced entry unit at best. Plus, the beast bulletproof build of Nokta = no thanks Garrett. So disappointing, I have been rooting for Garrett, I’m done.

The 3 level mapping screen seems to work good in showing multiple targets simultaneously. I think Garrett could have done much better with the screen graphics interface to compete better though. The lack of features leaves the Vortex anemic just like you mentioned Calabash, every mid-high level Multi Frequency Detector comes with headphones standard and in some cases additional coils so Im kind of feeling like Garret is "A La Carting" this to generate the most revenue they can on a not quite ready for market machine... I currently own the Manticore and Deus II but my first machine was the Nokta Legend and for $650 I got the Pro pack that included the headphones, 6 inch and 12 inch Coils along with an extra auxiliary battery pack. Garret has their work cut out of for them, thanks for producing all these Test Videos it gives me something to report back to my Metal Detecting Club for those Garret Fans.
@justinandshebaАй бұрын
I think it's really lame that the VX5 doesn't even have wireless enabled, so you have to "upgrade" to at least the VX7 just to use the Z Lynk headphones.

I remember when the Nokta's first came out. They were full of problems. You hated them. It took them forever to fix them. You just got the Vortex yesterday. I'd say it's a heck of a lot better than the Nokta's were when they first came out. Do you recall all this? You were in a feud with Nokta. I'd say the Vortex ain't doing too bad for day 2. It's software up-gradable. Give Garrett the same chance you did Nokta. I'm not saying they will do anything, but at least give them them a little time. Personally, I don't run Garrett but I know the company well and they support the hobby better than any other company. Try and put on a seeded hunt without their support. Just sayin.....
@justinandshebaАй бұрын
It's software upgradeable, but no update is going to give it a vibrating handle option. They really need to expand on the tone options and have an auto noise cancel feature.

Nokta really really stepped up their game when they released the original simplex. Imagine them sitting around a round table and having that moment that Garrett desperately needs where they finally did what the community was asking for. They listened. It made them a success story. Prior to the simplex they did almost nothing to correct their machines. The multi kruzer, anfibio and impact had few if any updates. How many updates did the Apex get so far?
@Hal_txАй бұрын
@@justinandsheba Do you really use the vibrating handle? I have that on my Manticore and think it's useless.
@Hal_txАй бұрын
@@deltafreshrelics1660 Nokta didn't have much choice. The detector was terrible when it first came out. The Garrett, from watching this video, seems pretty good. It may need a little tweaking but it doesn't look too bad for day 2.

Seems to me Garrett has put the hobby market second. They make so much money on the security/industrial metal detecting market that they will always be around as a company.

I mean... they make a great pinpointer, but even that could be improved by releasing a rechargeable model.
