Again this place looks perfect. I read through most of the comments and your reply’s and that answered most of my questions but I have a few if you don’t mind. 1. Do you live here year round or is this a getaway spot? Maybe I missed it on the tour but, 2. where do you keep your food stuff stored? I didn’t see a pantry and I’d think being 30 miles from town you’d want to be able to stock up. 3. Do you have a closet or washer and dryer? I didn’t see it on the tour and I know my wife will ask when I show her this. Lol. Thanks in advance.

Lovely place you have there, very eye appealing. We built our home in the woods over a decade ago, it totaled $60k here in Canada. @gwebocelestron91945 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing costs. It really helps to see setup and cost of everything to build. I just finished my off grid tiny house and moved into it a few weeks ago. I was able to get land for free. It belonged to my grandmother who passed away in 1977. The property sat in her estate since. I just had to pay about $250 to transfer the deed to my name. Property already had septic and two wells. There was a 12'x12' slab that I built on. Main story with loft total about 280 sq ft. My build cost me about $7000 so far, but walls/ceiling in loft are not done yet. Insulated and I staple gunned canvas for temporary walls/ceiling. Winter is here so there won't be any major building until spring. Did not get the well pump going before winter so there's no water running to the house. I have to haul water. Also, my solar set up is not as large as yours. Just two 50 watt panels with two batteries. Not enough to run much more than lighting and computers. So I rely on a generator wnen I need power. Heating with a Mr. Heater portable Buddy that is plenty for 280 sq ft. Did not get septic to the house before winter so I have to empty a portable toilet into the septic dump station. I did get a gray water septic installed so I can at least use the sink and the tub. I had a low budget to begin with, but I ran out of time more than anything. Building will resume in the spring. Until then there are these few inconveniences. All totalled I probably have $15,000 into this considering build of the house, generators, solar, batteries, water tanks, pump, heatrr, propane tanks, etc... I have a makeshift kitchen for now. Small beer fridge I'm using like an ice box, a butane camp stove, a folding table and some metal shelves with milk crates for cabinets. Some cube organizer units from Target that I arranged to make stairs to the loft and make a large amount of convenient storage. Usage of candles and a gas lamp for lighting unless I really need to see something, then I turn on led lighting using solar/batteries.
@denisewilson83672 жыл бұрын
You have a very expensive build for a tiny 280 sq ft cabin. The sep tut ic, and 2 wells and the foundation slab already there on the property too. No running water & no working septic. A few get by items & the buildings shell you shouldn't have $15,000 spent already. Was this PRE- covid lumber prices or PEAK - covid lumber prices? I have my motorhome and I'm looking for land 3 -4 states away from my childhood area. I hope to build a temporary home in one of the barns lean-to areas. It will work while I build my forever dream home. I hope to spend about half of what you have spent so far for everything ffg or the temporary home, the rainwater catchment & filtering system, the septic, and hopefully the spring water supply too. The heating system, and about 1,000 watts of solar power. I have been buying used items to build out the temporary home and I'm more than half way there and still keeping close to my budget.

Thanks for showing all of us your cabin. I started mine in 2003 and finished in 2005 for just under 4500. It is 12 x24 with an 8x24 enclosed front porch, so no loft. Now since I live in a bluestome area you gave me a new idea. Now that window by the table is perfect and some thing I put in initially along with a siding glass door on the porch. The funny part is I have an ac unit up that for the hottest days in the summer.

I am a carpenter by trade and will be doing it myself mostly with a few friends, I noticed you had a solar fridge for solar energy. I'd like to have one in my kitchen. want to know what system for solar you have in your cabin .How many kilowatt do you have and what would be the cost ? what are your solar panels are they 265w panels? Beautiful Home...Good Job...Value will always go up...we bought our home here in Maine w/ 3+/- acres.The deck next to kitchen was big but not up to code. Used $12k and tore that out and re- built a 4 season room/ guest room. That was 21 years ago and then we clear cut the back yard to get rid of the pine trees. Guy that did it, took the wood as payment and sold it to a builder. Barter in Maine is always an option!

Why build the chimney outside? Wastes wood, doesn't store any heat during the night etc.

Its a way to save interior space. It can sacrifice efficiency and safety. Its plenty safe however, if you clean regularly. Youll get better results with it centrally located for sure, but if you look at his spread, youd be burnin your ass no matter where youd try to go if you tried to do that.

Why did you want to move off grid?
@GarrettAlt6 жыл бұрын
Never had a plan on being off grid when the cabin was built. The solar seemed like a smart choice and glad I decided to go this route.

You are correct.The only answer is self sufficiency.
