Garrick's input on Ben Laude's Chopin Podcast has reaffirmed my esteem for him as a truly exceptional advocate of Chopin's legacy and I could not think of anyone more perfect for this role. I trust that the winners of this upcoming competition will be outstanding and I look forward to hearing their interpretations of Chopin - music that we NEVER tire of hearing due to the endless ways it can be interpreted.

Yay! Garrick Ohlsson being chairman gives me 100% confidence in the integrity of the jury.

there will never be a fair jury in music competitions..without blind auditions..and no jury member with any connections to participants… and if a jury member sells master classes ..banning for life as a jury member

@@tillm2481Blind performances (it was done once in an early Chopin competition) would go a long way toward making decisions less biased. Unfortunately, it comes at huge marketing/entertainment costs.

@@vahehagopian6085True. Honestly, i’d rather watch an unfair jury than a blind Chopin competition😅

@@useryandiwknfksdRight! This is probably why it was only implemented once. It's a very noble idea though, and maybe with technology it would be possible in the future to only make it blind for the jury somehow. However, even then it would probably be excruciatingly boring for the jury (and therefore an unpopular idea).

Such a fantastic choice. Ohlsson has a such a unique gift of sharing knowledge and a love for music. I know no other concert pianist who has given so much back to the classical piano world. You just have to watch a portion of his Tonebase interviews and lessons to see how much of a treasure he is.

I think this is an excellent move by the Institut and, as many commentators have said, the Ben Laude Chopin podcast shows what a consummate musician Garrick Ohlssohn is! Like many others, I have absolute confidence in him, including his ability to manage the deliberations of 16 other Jury Members - itself a daunting undertaking. I'm looking forward to this......

A fantastic coincidence is that we can all enjoy Garrick's deep dives (and more) on ALL of Chopin's music in a podcast series by Ben Laude, which I highly recommend. Every single competition is an outstanding event of course but to be able to build such a link with the Chairman of the next competition and to listen to hours of his genius insights is truly amazing and will make the 2025 competition that much more special to me. Absolutely can't wait!

Are you saying finalists will now play Polonaise Fantasy op.61 to finish off the final?
@Zympans22 сағат бұрын
Also, including a solo piece in the finals can help those who have simply smaller experience playing with orchestra. Especially the younger musicians with less opportunities. And the fact that's actually op. 61 is giving even more space to the pianists who would have chosen it anyway in the previous stages, i.e. people I am for instance kinda naturally more interested in.

@@C720L I never heard of him, winning a competition doesn't make him a great pianist. He isn't Ashkenazy, Kissin, Argerich or even Blechacz. Why isn't one of these Chopin winners a chairman for the Chopin? I'll tell why, because of politics. Some Asian/American or Asuan/Canadian will win the Chopin 🙄B. Rana and A. Malofeev never won the Chopin did they? Winning a competition doesn't mean much.
@hanyuee1160Күн бұрын
@@elsaesteves there's no way you're commenting on the choice of this competition without even knowing who Ohlsson is, so I highly doubt the relevance of your comment (and I don't think Kissin has won any prize here). Also, I do think that they tend to prefer great pedagogue over performers while choosing chairman (last time it was Son who's a great teacher). And as for Asian or not winning the competition, that's got nothing to do with politics. The person who performed the best in the competition takes the win, that's all, don't bring politics in this.
