Do you all know about #exposuredelay in #Nikondslr Specifically the Nikon D850? Today I am at Beautiful Matthiesson State Park in Utica IL shooting the gorgeous canyon waterfalls under the morning light. Using Exposure Delay in the NIKON D850 helps reduce/eliminate any internal camera shake from the mirror opening when you release the shutter. Its a great tool for landscape photographers and should be more widely known than it is

Nice work. My favorite is the flowers with the vines in the background. The swirling bubbles were cool too and I love that bridge. When I do landscape/long exposure stuff with my new used D850, I use live view so the mirror is already up. I compose the shot using the rear screen instead of the OVF. Either method will accomplish the goal of eliminating mirror shock. I should have bought a D850 long ago but I was happy to finally pick up a virtually new one for a wholesale price.

Very cool, Garrick! Love the flower with the vines in the background. Is it just me or is the first one-the swirly bathtub-giving a 💀vibe? Spooky!

Thanks Woody! As long as ive been going there, that bridge almost always has some mud and or debris on it. The rain washes everything down the slopes and onto the bridge. They do a pretty good job of maintaining the park overall

What’s amazing is that those teenagers were up that early! It’s hard to get them out of bed before the crack of dawn to go somewhere.

For those who may not have the shutter delay feature, don't worry about it ruining your photos just keep shooting. On the water swirl pic your exposure time was 13 seconds, the shake caused by a mirror slap will last such a short period of time it will have no effect on that image. On the pics where the exposure time is fractions of a second (1/2, 1/4. etc.) you might see an effect. I use so much it's become a habit, even when I realize it's not really needed. Nice Pic!

"Are you a pro photographer Garrick?" (inside joke). The goPro footage came out good. It was another good trip to the canyons.

Love the shots you got. I’m going to have toe to vote for the 24-70 shot, since the 12-24 Super wide showed a Turd Smiley Openclipart at 6:46 into the video😅.

I always see photographers recommend using the self timer to mitigate shake but I’ve always used the exposure delay mode once they started allowing longer than just a one second delay like on my old D300s.

Thanks!! Yeah im brand new to the exposure delay mode and I think it makes the most sense! Any "internal" vibration will come from the movement of the mirror.....so adding that delay just seems like a great resolution. Take care

Exposure delay is of absolutely no value on a 13 second exposure. Camera shake due to the movement of the mirror lasts for only 1/30 to 1/15 second. On a 13 second exposure, that would be about 1/400 to 1/200 of your total exposure. The period of “shakiness” would be eight stops under-exposed, and wouldn’t appear in your photo. Exposure delay is only necessary for exposure times of about one second or faster.

I guess "value" is in the eye of the beholder. Thanks for the feedback........way too technical for me, but ill bet someone gets something out of it!!
