One of the most important (default) hotkeys is ctrl+shift+h which selects all town centers. Shift+. (period) is another very useful one, it selects all idle villagers.

just a look at the tech tree is good enough. unit strengths and weaknesses are mentioned there. no need for any outside source in this game. also shortcutting the learning phase takes away so much fun from playing as normally that is the best time you have.

With regard to the whole scouts killing villagers situation: I really think it would be helpful to have a statistic that shows not just the amount of units killed but rather their resource equivalent. That way it would be better possible to compare the losses if each player.

Fun fact about stronghold. If you build 2 items stalls work on the front entrance of a bot in stronghold the enemy won't be able to leave their city and you can slaughter them instantly as you build up your forces and the bot can't leave nor attack and they get stalled in.

With regard to the starting scout - I actually purposely do not attack the opponent's scout unless they attack first. So there are at least some of us low elo types who do notice it, but then choose to let it be. I know I am in the minority, though, as I'm used to my own scouts getting slaughtered, even when they are unarmed horses/camels on those MR gens. 😅

Quick question, I have only a few hours played, I just play once or twice a week at most. I usually use a 2 army combo and some siege. I put the different groups in number hotkeys (so for example, militia in 1, crossbow 2, trebouchetes in 3). Is this a good practice or not? Ive talked with some friends and non of them do this.

no an expert here... what i have notice is they will do that but have several armies at the same time... so army 1 would be what you describe and army 2 would be hotkeys 4 5 6 and so on... so they attack with one and defend with the other, or attack 2 sides at the same time... or have a group of horses just for raiding the economy... staff like that.

You can add a 4th and 5th number hotkey of the buildings you want to make army so you also spam from them

Yes, it is a good practice. Especially if you assign the ranged and the melee units different hotkeys, cause it alllows you to position your units very efficiently.

until you know how to beat cav archers they're quite scary because they seem impossible to kill, they just run away and shoot you, all you can do is hide behind defenses and hope they run under castle fire

Oof Red threw away a lot of units. Not just villagers but also so many elephants going down unnecessarily. The other lesson besides garrisoning vills is taking units off aggressive stance until you attack.

After 10 ranked games, I'm like ~1000 elo. Granted 2 of those were wins due to enemy DC. So maybe I'm ~900 right now? Realistically probably lower. But still... Blue could beat me, I'm confident of that. Blue seems way better than 544 elo

10 games isn't much, and 1000 elo is what you start at when you begin ranked, so give it time. (The starting point can be annoying for those actually around 1k when they get matched with somebody new to ranked that has a big skill gap, in either direction.)

I play on Xbox controller, and always against PC players, just find games quicker and the community is bigger so not as stressful with the elo deal. Too much stress and anxiety over elo on xbox only.

At higher levels a lot of players like to have more deliberate control over how they spend their wood, especially earlier in the game. For example if you're going mostly archers, you might build a bunch of farms to get enough food for Castle Age, and then if a bunch of them expire as you're arriving maybe rather than rebuilding them you'd rather spend that wood on a TC or a University or something.

I've been in Pokemon battles where I was certain my opponent didn't know how to forfeit. Because it was just hopeless for them but they kept coming at me like there was a chance they could win. (There wasn't.) You do it by trying to Run, by the way.

And in non-rated battles I've forfeited even though I was winning, because the other player didn't seem to know you could. It's super rare though, since I only do it if I'm very sure.
