It's been a while, huh? I took a little vacation because I was moving, but I'm back and feeling better than ever! Sonic adventure is one of my favorite games of all time and I had to make up for that really short video I made about it before. This is my emotional deep dive into Sonic Adventure!

Fun fact, since Sonic and Knuckles are in sky deck at the same time, Knuckles is the one that is causing the ship to turn for sonic because thats a mechanic in his stage, where knuckles has to press a lever to tilt the ship. I always interpreted it like that, anyways.

Sonic Adventure 1 always has a special place in my heart. It's the first Sonic game I've ever played, it introduced me to this franchise in a big way, I enjoyed the story, the characters, the gameplay, the banger soundtrack -- this game is a gem, and I'm glad you got to talk about it.

Same! Sonic Adventure 1&2 are still my favorite sonic games all these years later! I like that frontiers is having multiple characters again for the dlc, and that the story is a lot darker again.

My dad used to be a massive video game lover so naturally, he bought a lot of games home. I was already in a pretty big sonic phase after watching sonic x and playing the 2d games but when my dad gave me sonic adventure DX (yeah I know it’s the bad version but it’s still great) it has become the most memorable part of my childhood. The music, stages and cutscenes all still replay in my head to this day. I only recently got back to revisiting sonic and when I replayed sonic adventure for the first time in over a decade, I got super emotional and actually teared up on several occasions remembering the younger days on my pc mindlessly running through the beach, casinos and icy mountains while jamming to the music not realising how much this will end up meaning to me. It’s a child’s game with a lot of flaws but it’s weird to think that it ended up meaning so much to me and my childhood.

honestly, this was quite a pleasant surprise. I just beat Sonic Adventure DX for like the 6th time the day before this released. And the day this released i just beat Sonic Adventure 2, so fate has decided that sonic adventure will be the majority of my time over the next while.

Wrong. If that happened then Knuckles wouldn’t know that his job is to protect the Master Emerald. One of the echidnas must have been alive when Knuckles was alive to give him that agenda. Most likely died off when Knuckles was in his youth

I am with Tails on the ending: "All's well that ends well." Except for the many people who died, lost their loved ones, or lost every earthly possesion they owned in the great flood of destruction. But who cares? Tails lives in Mystic Ruins, he lost nothing. All's well that ends well.

Fun video. Just a very few things I would like to mention. On the Echidna history thing the Japanese exclusive SA1 guide book "the Sonic Adventure navigation guide" actually goes into detail on that one. Tikal was able to stop the Echidna's before they were completely wiped out. They created the mural in Lost world as a warning for the future and than used the Master Emerald to lift a peace of the earth into the sky so creating Angel Island in an attempt to make it harder for Chaos to ever be released with the Echidna's dedicating them self to guard the emerald. After about 3000 years of isolation on the Island did they numbers dwindle to just 1 that being Knuckles. (Yes 3000 years. For what ever reason did most official references to the age of the echidna always place it 3000 years in the past in the Japan and 4000 in the rest of the world) Knuckles doesn't fall for Eggman imminently he first does when he mistakes the Green Chaos Emerald for a shard of the Master Emerald which at first would appear to be prove that Eggman wasn't lying. Big really is Sonic Adventure's special stage. I have to ask how is SA2 better? Sure the light-speed dash on one button is better but most other things are rather subjective. Especially as SA1 has a rather different approach to level design than SA2.

Honestly one of the reasons I was a big fan of Sonic x was because of it having the same art style as adventure. Honestly I would love an anime based the adventure titles and other that share it’s art style ( battle, rush, chronicles, 06 but written well, heroes, secret rings, black knight, and the advanced series.)

Kinda doesn't make sense since it's in the same place and Sonic, Tails and Knuckles should see each other but, yeah...

Just a heads-up, you are required to obtain the Rhythm Badge in the past with Tails before Tikal spawns and allows you to go to the next cutscene.

one thing i'll say about the dialogue and story, it was translated pretty poorly. the cutscenes still look really goofy but the dialogue is pretty good in the japanese version

It would’ve been really cool if Sonic tried to pull a Sonic CD and launch himself to the Egg carrier after Red Mountain, but fails He panics, but hears Tails and is relieved Tails shouts : Sonic! Sonic exclaims happily: Tails, you’re okay, I was so worried. Tails responds : hey I learned from the best, I wouldn’t go down that easy. Looks like I got here just in time. Sonic states : you sure did, are you okay? I assume you have a plan to take down the Egg carrier’s defenses? I think Eggmans getting serious this time. Tails proclaims: I’m fine, Eggman won’t know what hit ‘em, I got something that might surprise you

If you look at Eggman in Adventure 1, the creation of Chaos Gamma out of regret for Gamma is in a sense a foreshadowing of bringing Sage back to life, and it is a great scenario that clearly shows what to do with an existence that he does not show affection for. I still believe that it is one of the factors

If you play the game on PC, check out the Fixed Emerald Radar mod! It makes Knuckles and Rouge a lot less awful. The levels are still too big, but it's better.

Oh man, mods are so great for these games. Some will be quality of life improvements, but other things like the Real Miles mod makes Tails play like SA1 Tails in SA2 and is super fun. Or Chao World Extended which adds TONS of new stuff to the Chao Garden it feels like a real DLC expansion for it. Check out Gamebanana's Sonic Adventure 2 (PC) section. Mods are very easy to set up. No matter how janky this game is, Sonic Adventure will always be my favorite in the 3D series (okay, the Adventure games have the least jank, but that's neither here nor there). I was actually more excited about this game than Mario 64; got it along with my Dreamcast on its US launch. Yeah, SA2 is better in almost every aspect, but SA1 still somehow feels better. An overall amazing sendoff to Sega as a hardware maker as well.
