In his new book, "What the Qur’an Meant", he offers a timely reconsideration of the sacred text. Reading with sympathy and rigor, Wills takes us back to the words themselves to discover how they have guided people down through the centuries and what other non-Muslims-such as Pope Francis-have found so inspiring.

I became Muslim when I was 21-22 years old. My parents are both Colombians and Catholic, most of my family is Catholic or some other sort of Christian - but Alhamdulilah I'm about to be 32 and Islam is still apart of my life, it is the way of life I hope to die on by the will of God and I hope to pass to my baby girl, and any other children I have. Adoption in Islam is haram Adoption is taking in another's child as one's own. Islam prohibits adoption and deems all its consequences invalid as attested to by the words of Allah, "… nor does He make your adopted sons into real sons. These are only words from your mouths, while God speaks the truth and guides people to the right path. Name your adopted sons after their real fathers; this is more equitable in God's eyes-if you do not know who their real fathers are [they are your] 'brothers-in-religion' and protégés." [Qur`an 33:4-5] Taking care of orphans is different to adoption maybe you are confusing the legal terms. The reason why adoption was made haram is bc Muhammad married the wife of his stepson.This way his stepson was not his stepson anymore and had to change his name to Zayd ibn Harithah when he was the son of Muhammad his name was Zayd ibn Muhammad.

God's only begotten son. His blood is perfect and can take away all of our sins. blood will be required at the end of your life because of your sins and if you do not have an atonement for your sins (who can only be jesus since his blood is the only requirement) you will go to hell forever 💕♥️

I converted to Islam when my son was born intention was to stop drinking alhamdulillah for my son not to see me taking alcohol then i start watching youtube videos subuhanallah next thing was with my muslim friends in Ramadan were praying upstairs tabarakallah then next thing i saw myself without wudu want to pray and it was in the middle of magrhib prayer and my friend who was leading prayer he cut he salaah after realising want to pray knowing me as christian then he said if you want to pray please first make wudu(cleaned myself) then he told me u cant make salaah without believe SAW Is a prophet and oneness of God from that moment ooh Allah that feeling never feel like that before it was special felt like something has lifted off my whole body felt like ... that feeling is special i dunno ,wallah their is no true religion than Islam and some born Muslim take Islam for granted but this beautiful religion wallah my dear brothers and sisters let's practice more ,my dad and all siblimgs are still christians and we still have good relationship nothing changed and my dad says i have become best son alhamdulillah since i became Muslim because i don't drink anymore i only want to pray and my sons are following my footsteps tabarakallah ❤❤❤ I pray to Allah to die as Muslim and so is my son and may Allah guide my dad and my siblings know the truth and Allah show them noor In Sha Allah to be Muslims too Ameen

He made a few mistakes about Islam, it is better to ask a real Islamic Scholar about issues than someone who is not qualified or can't even read and speak Arabic. For example, the reason the man inherits more than the woman is because in Islam the man has to provide everything for the woman, the daughter is looked after by her father. Verses also say that Moses's and Christ's followers at their times who submitted to Lord and were righteous and I repeat righteous will have no fear or sadness on theirselves from the Lord because they simply submitted to the Lord but they should not reject Muhammad and Quraan just like they did not with gospel n Torah. I was born in Catholic religion until when I was 20 than I found out I was praying to the wrong things like stones multiple images with not powers, I was not happy I never got answers from any of those, than I converted to Christianity my mother used to make me kiss Jesus feet every day I mean the statue I always believe that I was doing the correct thing praying and ask him for help, but help never came I used to cry every day asking Jesus for a proof or sign that he was listening my prayers since our prayers gets to God only through him right? Well and the signs never came, than I stoped praying to him and stoped believe in him, so I was calling my self “spiritual” for awhile, one day I started reading the Quran and I find out that there is exact instructions (guide) how to live a good life, after one year of investigating i knew Islam was the truth religion so I converted to Muslim since 5 years ago , Allah is the one and only we should all be praying. Finally Allah is the only one who has helped me in amazing ways. Thanks to our beloved Prophet Muhammad I found God, since than I live my days extremely happy I love life!!! With my due respect to Garry Wills, I should clarify that, each chapter of the Quran is arranged by God. After revelation was fulfilled, the angel Gabriel recited the completed chapters upon prophet Muhammad who in turn recited them to his deciples. The exact wording and the order of verses has been preserved since then. The problem comes when you read Quran in a different language and without understanding the context of each verse. Then you miss much of the brilliance of the Quran. I suggest listening to a guy called Nouman Ali Khan who has plenty of you tube videos explaining Quran in English and exploring it's linguistic treasures and the connections between its verses and chapters.

Also it’s not agreed among Muslim scholars bc it’s not an authentic Hadith, if u check Sahih Albukhari book u will find 3 types of Hadith. The first one is (weak narrated) the second is (not fully narrated Hadith) the last one is(Authentic Hadith). All the authentic Hadith are the ones which Muslims take for granted and the reason behind that is all of the Authentic Hadiths are considered to be true bc it has a chain of narration from our time up to prophet Mohammed PBUH. Regarding the verse of the holy Quran u mentioned, the verse clearly says to women who has divorced to not have married until they finish three months in order to be certain that they are not pregnant out of the previous marriage. With that being said, there are a lot of contradictions in the Bibles 77 for one sect and 66 in the other one. Also the language spoken by Jesus PBUH is Aramaic and the first Bible ever written was in Greek (New Testament) and Hebrew for (the Old Testament). So it’s not the revelation sent by Allah to his prophet Jesus PBUH simply bc u can’t translate the word of God. People make mistakes but Allah don’t. The second point is no one knows the authors of this Bibles (John, Luke, Mathew, Peter) are unknown according to Christian mythology and scholars. As I mentioned in my previous comment about the verse when Jesus PBUH was a serial killer I mean even the animals were killed!!! If ur believe based on corrupted scripture ur not in a position to claim with all certainty that ur right and I’m not unless u bring a solid evidence supported by solid resource and also try to read ur bible and the Quran at least before saying things about Islam although ur bible has a lot of bad, evil, and crazy things.

I have had many disappointments from certain Christian groups or pastors who make claims without having even read the Koran. RH Henkle, West Point Class of 1989, former aide to Saudi General in the 1991 Gulf War. I was selected for my comparative religion education--of which very few were formerly receiving. Impassioned hate statements like those from Trump or Trumpists, or Christians who have not studied the facts of the religion are quite dangerous indeed. One must read the document to gain understanding of how Muslims actually think--and how some can be deceived by what is NOT in the Koran. So to still insist on two female witnesses as being equal to one male is unjust. Equality isn't fair anyway. Imagine being a pregnant woman who needs to appear as a witness and you go into labor and then the man appears as witness, but you can't. So what do you do? Like there are more financial responsibilities for men, but more physical responsibilities for women like being there for a child, being there for childbirth, making sure the family is fed etc etc and being forced to go somewhere where it's easier for a man to appear. Same reason women aren't imams. Imams are leading prayers daily and women can't do that due to menstruation which is a period in which women need to rest and their minds are affected by it (PMS). So if we continue to live in a way they do in the west where everything MUST be equal and nothing less then we will be living in an unfair society.

A man inherits properties from his father only. Women has been provided three times more financial security than men. So that, if even she is an Orphan, she get financial support from her husband and sons. If her father passes away or leave her with nothing, she still gets necessary financial support from other two. Secondly, men are unconditionally responsible to look after his parents, wife and children. This burden does not apply on women. So, men and women are not equal in Islam in terms of inheritance. Women clearly inherit more without any financial responsibility being put on her. Quran was sent to the mankind, for every nation, every race that will exist till the end of time. But, Allah swt clearly mentioned in Quran that, this is a book for the people who are wise and open to accept the truth. The problem with us is, we are knowledgeable but barely wise. We think we are open minded, but we have narrowed down our acceptance for truth. May Allah bless us with eyes to see and heart to comprehend.

We really appreciate and are highly thankful that Mr. Garry Wills discussed about Islam, about one and only one Almighty God (Allah) who created all these Universes, everything in it, and about the Mankind (Adam till now) and about different Prophets of Allah. Very nice. However, in my humble opinion there were some places in the discussion where Mr. Garry Wills seemed to lack the required knowledge in some Islamic matters. For example: (1) Sharia Laws (Quranic Laws and Justice System). (2) Chronology of Islamic History (3) Revelation of the Quran. The Revelation of Quran was dictated by the Prophet Muhammad PBUH and written and preserved by his assigned scribers under the direct strict supervision of Prophet Muhammad PBUH himself. Prophet Muhammad PBUH left the Quran in the complete form of Book when he passed away, since, it was his divine duty to leave the Quran in a complete form of Book for his followers being the last Messenger/ Prophet of Almighty Allah. Later on the Companions of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) preserved the written Book of Quran in the original Arabic pronunciation (Ahruf) of Banu Quraysh (Arabic) only and in the arrangement of bigger chapters to smaller chapters. (3) Seal of Prophet-hood. It means that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is the Last and Final Messenger of Almighty Allah till the Judgement Day. No Prophet or Messenger will come after the Prophet Muhammad PBUH. Only Quranic Islamic Shariah will prevail until the Judgement Day. Furthermore, Prophet Muhammad PBUH is the full & final authority to verify/ to endorse the true or false information about the previous Prophets of Almighty Allah and their Books based on the Divine Revelation of the Holy Quran made to him by the Almighty Allah. (4) He also interchanged the information about Shia Muslims and Sunni Muslims unconsciously by mistake. Finally, once again thank you for such a nice discussion. It is suggested that for such kind of interactive discussions an Islamic Scholar of international repute may also be invited in future to make it more effective discussion.

Critiquing the Quran and Muhammad are not the same as hating muslims. Muhammad criticized other religions and other religious beliefs in his time. Muslims today should not expect that their beliefs should not be examined. All claims to knowledge must be examined without bias. Don't you think so? I was born to a Muslim Arabic speaking family and my family taught me how to read and memories Quran but never understood the true Islam until I started listening to converts stories and how the Quran changed their life, I admit that many Muslims by birth needs to revert to Islam by reading and understand the beauty of their religion through the Quran and not granted Islam as a title or label from their parents or society. To my fellow humans, Quran taught me that every single human being was born Muslim pure soul and it’s only his parents and society that draw his traditions and religious beliefs. We all needs to revert to Fitra ( pure Islam) at certain points of our life weather we were born to a Jewish, Christian, or Muslim family and society.
