This stream ironically got me to replay the old Humungous Entertainment games that I have on Steam. They're just a joy to play and mess around with! Not to mention, these games are amazing technical marvels for the time despite them being geared towards kids. To explain, they're made in the SCUMM engine, with is used for LucasArts/LucasFilms Maniac Mansion. These games like Monkey Island and Sam & Max use a text/action panel interface where you click on them and have a character walk around in a fixed environment. HE's DOS games did that at first, but then everything changed in the Windows and Macintosh era. Starting with the first Freddi Fish (fun fact: this was my first HE game), their future titles had fully animated cutscenes with dynamic backgrounds for *every single part of the game.* They even made the Backyard Sports series, arcade styled games and even activity centers in SCUMM. Remember, this is in an engine that was intended for *point-and-click games* and nothing else. They really pushed the bar and it shows that they don't dumb things down despite making kids games, they really cared about the technical aspects of their products. All of this, combined with the off-colour easter eggs and them actually being fun adventure games is why HE's games has an adult fanbase. Even if you were a kid who grew up with them or you're older and just getting into them, these games are just memorable and are still loved in the genre.
