Well when you are the best distro you can be arrogant. Buggy,,,, lie... over bloated... mhe, it has good stuff, Id rather have a bunch of good stuff I may not need then a bunch of crap that I don't even know is crap. My favorite part of Garuda is they understand unused ram is a waste. A lot of linux users mistakenly think that low ram usage is a good thing. it is a false notion that needs to be corrected. I don't like the looks of garuda but the themes are easy to change. I agree i don't understand why people think transparent windows and unique icons are good. I did end up with a similar icon pack with just white and plan black themes. The crap look of garuda is definitly the worst part, but again, it just shows people radically different options and forces them to find good themes.

Someone tell me why everyone in the linux community feel like they should create a whole new distro when they discover an icon pack and a shell theme. Why dont we have just baseline 7-8 linux distros with very distinct feature sets and let people customise how they want. I feel like this is just commiting to more fragmenting and I could just download manjaro and theme it like this taking me 10 minutes.... This whole garude should be just a github gist with the steps to custumise from manjaro gnome....

I don't mind having a new distro for a different look if it is a whole package. But I think it should be done only if it has so much to package together that it creates a whole new direction and community (e.g. emelentary os), otherwise it is just a "skin" on ubuntu or arch or something.

I tried their cinnamon version and was thinking it was great till I tried to install an app; it was trying to uninstall some stuff that other apps depended on for some reason and they were different for every different app that I tried to install. I tried finding a solution for the problem but their community is not that great... So yeah, back to Manjaro.
@MichaelMantion3 жыл бұрын
Garuda forums are the best. Not sure why you think their community is not great.. Its good to tinker and learn thing, breaking your system forces you to either learn how it works or learn how easy time shift is. Why didn't u just time shift back before you broke it and try the system as it is. I mean I hate KDE destops, but only after I used it for a month. I do think I could configure and like KDE, but I was trying so many distros i didn't want to bother tweaking KDE every time I install. I also use cinnamon because its close to what I like right out of the box. Gardua has a lot of stuff going on, you really shouldn't be uninstalling things unless you are an expert. That is why its so good for new users because they don't have to struggle to install complex stuff like Zen kernels.

@josecamilojimenez27843 жыл бұрын
It depends, in one hand if you have an SSD it's pretty bad because everytime that you write something in the SSD the btrfs filesystem writes a backup of your information and you will end up shorting your SSD life and in the other hand is pretty good if you need to create a server or some type of NAS. In the case of SSDs the best option is to use f2fs cuz is faster and it preserves the life of your drive
