Hi Guys. If I recall, Gary Allen did serve. He also has two daughters he fathered, and 5 more children he adopted after their mother-his fiancé-committed suicide. That takes a great man. His voice is so unique that he’s also one my favorite singers.

Gary Allan is my favorite. I love most of his songs. He was in the Army and does events for the troops. This came out in 2009. I always took the words to mean that a man will get mushy in certain private, personal moments. I get your points though. My mother told me that Daddy stressed really bad when I'd deploy but I never got a hint of that from him. He made sure I got a care package every week and there was always plenty to share with everyone. Never saw him cry, he didn't get mushy and I never doubted how much he cared.

You two are just too cute. Loved the glasses Keith! Happy Birthday Keith's wife! I never saw my dad cry, even when his parents died anyway, I thought I was alone at home and I was up in my room and I was singing "Walking after Midnight" (Patsy Cline) and you know how when you're alone your inhibitions are lowered, so I was belting it out. When it was over I heard my mom holler my name and I went down stairs and she said "Was that you up there singing?" I said yeah, why? She nodded her head and I turned around and well...He always said I was his little girl and I stood there in our living room and watched this 6ft mountain of man, this Marine, cry. He looked at me and said now you know how one little girl, with little blonde curls totally terrifies me. I'm proud of ya (insert nickname here). I feel this song now that he's gone more than I did when it was first released. As for my dating years, guys always wanted to clear it with my dad cause they were scared of him, truth was, my mom was who they needed to be scared of. She was the one cleanin' guns dad was like what's the point he (the guy I was going out with) won't be around next weekend lol...'nough about me. Video was filmed on an airforce base with military members returning home that day so they added it to the video. Gary himself did serve in the US Army. Video was okay but it could have been better. Just my opinion. Great reaction. As always, y'all made me giggle! Thank you!

I swear y'all are gonna have me drinking again. Between y'all and my only son in law who's been my only son for 20 years and works nights so keeps asking me to come over in the mornings and day drink with him. I might just give in and see if I can still shoot whiskey. It's been 40 years. Seeing the kids running to their Daddy's gets me every time. This is the song about when they first become Daddys and the kids are small. The song about you hurt my daughter I'm hurting you comes later. He wasn't a puss Dad. Having three little girls and their Daddy in the military was just like that. And Daddy was always cleaning his guns when they started dating.. Lol. When I started dating it was my oldest brother cleaning his guns in plain sight through the glass door to the den. I rarely had a second date with a guy. I appreciate all the lemons he saved me from in hind sight but at the time he really made me mad. You should react to Craig Morgan Red Neck Yacht Club since summer is coming. I still think you'd love Martina McBride When God Fearin Women Get The Blues.

Loved this song, this song reminds me of everytime I came back from deployment home to my little girls. Still remember my ex telling me everytime my daughters saw a plane in the sky they would always call out for me, cause all they knew was daddy got on a plane and would come and go. But everything in that song is true, little girls turn you into a bubbling mess as a dad.

@@BourbonCountryReacts very true, but I wouldn't trade my daughters for anything in the world. Just like you wouldn't trade your son for anything in the world. And what you said about your Dad, and what you did with your son, my Dad did the same with me. I don't know if you remember or not but I told you my story about 9/11, being in Saudi Arabi when the planes hit, well we were on phone silence for about 2 weeks after, I remember when I finally got to call home my mom said my dad was just constantly watching the news, trying to get information about my unit, and praying that he didn't. He did this for every deployment I ever did until he passed away. He knew the horrors of war and never wanted me to follow in his foot steps, but was damn proud I did. I told my daughters growing up, I will always be proud of my military service, but to not be like me, be better than me, don't follow in my footsteps, use my footsteps to create your own path. I never wished for my daughters to join the military, cause I knew the military mentality when it came to women, and I know the scarface, and I did not want them to expierence it, but if they would have joined I would have been right there supporting them. It's the life of a parent.

This song was released in 2003 when we were freshly in Iraq, and Country music was (is) heavily influenced by the war, and patriotism. There were songs released that were not of the more traditional, "We'll put a boot in your ass" variety. Still, we were reminded that we were at war and that there were many, many children without a daddy or a mommy at home, as they were deployed with the military. And if you think Gary sounds whiny, he does sing with a lot of fricative noise. It's not a rasp per se, but it lends itself to sounding potentially like a big whine. In Ireland a pogue is a kiss, in the USA a purse, in USA slang, it means a passive homosexual man. If you like loud music, try listening to The Pogues, an Irish punk rock band. It's been a year so you probably won't read this, so, @Keith @Dustin I'm loving your reactions!

When do we get to see Joanna take part in reacting to a song? I mean, you are in her living room, so she should get some screentime. And Happy Birthday to her. Gary's profile says he was in the Army but it didn't offer much info beyond that. As for father's being protective, the first guy I dated turned green when he came in and saw deer head's mounted on the walls. He turned greener when my dad casually commented that his taxidermist was 'always looking for a new challenge'. Needless to say, the poor guy didn't even try to so much as hold my hand. Gary Allan's 'A Feeling Like That' and 'Smoke Rings In The Dark' are two of his better songs. They feature his vocal range much better than this. Because he does have a great voice, but he doesn't really show that off in this song. Johnny Cash - "Hurt" is the first I would suggest but I warn you it's a hit in the feels song. For something that's funny "A Boy Named Sue" Kirk Jay, who got his start on The Voice. His covers of "God Bless The Broken Road" and "I'm Already There" and amazing and Darius Rucker "Don't Think I Don't Think About It".

I love Gary Allan, but I admit that this isn't really one of my favorites of his, and it's not really typical of his overall sound/style. Most of his songs kind of blend country and rock, and a lot of his older songs, especially, have a more old school country/honky tonk feel. Check out some of his earlier stuff like "Smoke Rings In The Dark" (his best one, imo), "It Would Be You," "Loving You Against My Will," "Right Where I Need To Be," "Man To Man," "Her Man," etc.

I was thinking whiny as well . I didn’t grow up with a dad ,so I have no way to relate. I was a big Tom boy playing in the creeks and climbing trees and pretty tough, but when I had my daughter I did become a big softy in some ways , I cried the day she was born, when she took her first steps , her first day of pre-k and all the big milestones after but I am a woman so I guess it’s not the same although my ex did cry at a few of those as well. What you got to consider is the time frame this song came out. Gary was doing tours with USO, and we had the first few tours of combat run their course, so at the time this was a hit, there was a flood of returning soldiers coming home to see their wives and kids. The video was uploaded to KZbin in 2009, but it first aired on television in 2003. Country music produced a lot of patriotic/military themed songs and music videos for several years following September 11. This particular video was released shortly after the Iraq War began. It did feel like the military aspect was shoehorned into the video, but I honestly think that had to do with the times. I'm willing to give Gary Allan the benefit of the doubt that this was intended as a tribute to the military in light of what was happening at the time and not a cash grab.

With country music you gotta get out the literall sense of the words matching the imagery sometimes it does and sometimes it's an instantiated thought like military men are the most strong so when they have babies they turn into babies , it dosnt say that In the words of the song you have to think outside the words ...that's what a country song does sometimes ...

His vids tend to be on the artsy-fartsy side so I recommend listening with your eyes closed.

To me...this song is about little daughters making their daddies emotional...boys try to be "tough" instead.

Hi my three favorite Gary Allan songs Are (Watching Airplanes) (Every Storm) and (songs about rain) all three were inspired by a bad breakup with his longtime girlfriend at the time and were written by him as for the song you reacted to from what I understand the military in the music video was supposed to represent military father's coming home to their daughters
