As a new father of the happiest sweetest 6 month old little boy, i can confirm that the moment the doctor held him up and i first heard him cry, i turned into a big baby again and i still havent recovered. I never knew it was possible to love anyone as much as i love my son, and he cant even speak yet. Every time he laughs it makes my heart swell and i tear up. I have a video of him laughing while we were playing. I watch it whenever i have a bad day.

When I would put my uniform on, my vest and my duty rig, and walk out to my truck my then 5 year old granddaughter would run out the door and hug my leg. Papa, you don’t have to go to work! Now she’s 18 and calls me everyday when I’m on duty (night shift patrol) and reminds me to be safe and that she loves me. I’m a Marine Corps grunt and cop for 13 years. Do you have any idea how hard it is not to tear up when that happens?!!

I'm 58,the baddest mothereffer I ever encountered in my 7 years of SWG, training,Va,SD,grad,AIT2,boots down in country, many opps he cried like a bitch the day he got mail, and in it was a handful of ziplocked Polaroids, late summer 1990 of his newly born child, born about 10 days earlier back home... He died moments after opening that letter while showing me his beautiful newborn daughter and her mother's picture.. AK from 100 meters out.. I still bare the scars from where that round finally stopped and this song gutted me for a long time when it came out some 15-20 years agoish??.. now it's one of my favorites as my daughter who is now 13 going on 40 reminds me of how my best friend felt that day and moment just seconds before... Hug everyone who matters and even those that you believe don't.. Be nice, respect all.. One never knows when their last second has arrived...

My dad and I danced to this song at my wedding! 😢 I lost him a few years ago and I still can’t listen without crying my eyes out.

I am currently in the service and even though I don't have a daughter, everytime I leave home my youngest sister cries. This song reminds me of that strong bond I have with her and makes me cry everytime I listen to it.

Man, I support you 100%! Not just from your comment, but because I respect the soldiers who have fought, and are fighting in the wars! You sir, are one of the only living reasons that restore my faith in the army. Thank you Sgt. Miller, you have my full respect.

For all you saying that the Military doesn't do anything and that there not brave. My father served overseas before I was born and after me and my 2 brothers were. I am daddy's little girl. I am the youngest of 3 and my dad is my hero. He comes to ever softball game he can and it means so much when he says good job.

Anyone who says that the Military doesnt do anything should be the people taking the bullets, rockets, shells and all hell they're sending out over there

+Brendon Belyea that is so true people just don't know how good they have it . They take everything they have for granted while people lay there own lives down for them (even I am guilty of it) . People just need to sit and think of all the good things that they BC of the brave men and women that are protecting each and everyone of us.

*It's crazy.. I grew up with the song, I'm an Army vet and I now have a three year old daughter with little blonde curls. I never thought this would happen to me. God has truly blessed me.*

This song reminds me of my dad. He didn't die in the army though he was in it. He was at home and we where visting my grandma's house in Georgia(I live in Virginia). He stayed to pay rent. Then 2 days after my birthday he died. I've lived half my life without him(I'm 12). I miss him so much. I just wanted to get it out.

I didn't know my dad but my grandpa was exactly the same way. He was a former Marine. For as long as I can remember that man was always smiling, always laughing a weird laugh that only he did, and he was never too busy for me. Cancer took him Dec 11, 2005. That pain will never go away but before he got sick my grandpa told me something I'll never forget: he told me that if I woke up one day and he was gone, to never forget him. Because when you forget someone who has passed away then they truly are dead. The pain will ease as the years go by. And as you grow older those memories will grow more precious. And he'll live through them always.

Im 20 now, but my dad was in and out of deployment my whole childhood. He played it for me countless times. This song to this day will bring pools of tears to my eyes, I was his one little girl with little blond curls who terrified the hell out of him, thank you Gary Allen.
