Just rewatched this last week, and holy Fuck, I was SO Shocked by all the messages of racism, classism, police brutality, drug use, Border patrol brutality, cultural ignorance/insensitivity, and stances on individuality that still hold up 7 years later and don't feel forced or unaware, like most recent movies depict it as. Absolutely ALL OF THIS flew over my head from watching it when I was younger. And this stuff all hit me during the VERY START of my rewatch, like when Jafar and Pit are walking back home and we get introduced to the desert canyon, it litterally has a hip hop intro to it💀. Not to mention they get FUCKING SHOT AT BY THE OTHER SNAKES THERE!?? They're just shot with watermelon seeds, but jesus fucking christ, this movie is WAAAAAY too unknown and unappreciated for how well it depicts these kind of subjects by just using snakes. I'm a white as fuck teenager, so in retrospect it makes sense how I didn't notice ANY of it when I was younger, glad I do now though, amazing movie.

I watched casual geographic and his vid about birds he hates and secretary birds were on there, which is the birds in this movie that guard the oasis and I just learnt this. Secretary birds main diet is snakes right? The way this bird kills its prey is by continuously striking their heads with their feet and the force is 4 times their body weight, they do this until the preys skull caves in. If you watch the part in the movie where Ajar and Pit are getting beaten up by the secretary birds, specifically when pit has his antenna thing pulled, one of the birds grabs Ajar and hits him on the head twice, and you can see how much force the bird hit Ajar with bc of the way the rest of his body bounces upwards like damn. Plus you can definitely tell they were doing it for fun especially with the strikes on Ajars skull since secretary birds strike multiple times a minuite (cant remember exactly but its a lot) and he only did it twice so I can only just imagine how slowly they would've killed Ajar just gradually caving in his skull. I thought that was a pretty good and accurate detail but yeah secretary birds are nasty.
