I was fortunate to meet Gary one time at spring training when he was a commentator for the Marlins. All I could say is went out of his was to sign an autograph for me. He was true class and left us way too soon.

I immigrated to Canada and lived in Montreal when I was a young child. We didn't have any baseball in the country I grew up in. I fell in love with baseball quickly, and it was Gary Carter, more than any other single person, that I looked up to as a hero. As I grew older and Gary Carter left the Expos, I still followed his career. Although you can never really be sure about the personality of a celebrity, I always had the certainty that Gary Carter was a class act. I loved his determination to give 100% of his effort all the time. I loved how his eyes got so wide every time he took a swing. And I also loved how he smiled all the time. Gary, you were a class act and an inspiration to me and to many others. I hope that if I make it to heaven, I'll have a chance to meet you there.

So well said. I grew up in the Albany NY area and would make the trip to the Big O when the Mets were visiting the Expo's. Gary would beat the heck out of the Mets.When he was traded to the Mets I made sure I'd be in the stands for opening day at Shea 1985. In typical Carter fashion he walked it off with a line drive homer in the bottom of the 10th. He still is my favorite player today. May he rest in peace.

I became a Mets fan, because of Gary Carter, after the Expos were gone, even though he had retired a long time before that. As a 9 year old kid in 1986 playing baseball, the Mets were legendary for that 1986 World Series win, and I could not forget that since Carter was instrumental in that win. Carter was a legend in Montreal, and when he left, everybody was broken hearted.

I am a lifelong Braves fan but I always looked up to this guy. Guys like Murphy, Schmidt, Carter, etc are who really shaped my baseball fandom as a young child and still to this day. He was a helluva player, but an even better guy. He'll be greatly missed.

His speech was one of a kind. From a fan point of view, Gary Carter was a classy player and a true represntative of what a team player is, and what a family man should be. I know Jesus was very proud of his life. People like Gary Carter are an inspiration to others and allows them to make changes in their lives for the best. Rest in Peace. Thank you, Gary Carter, for being a great baseball player and an even greater human being off the field. You always gave my aunt Tracy happiness no matter where you played, and always made her day when you stopped for a photo opportunity or autograph. If only I could've met you before you passed in 2012; my life would've been complete in knowing I met a human being with a beautiful soul. I met Gary Carter in 1986 , August 30 , I was 12 years old, it was at shea in NY before the game that day against the Dodgers, I had won a raffle at Genoese drug store in NY to meet cater and some other Mets players, and I got to go on the field with all the other people that won the raffle to. I remember Gary Carter coming out to meet us and everyone went crazy and was all over him hundreds of kids and they parents, he was so nice to all of us crazy New Yorkers, he signed autographs that day and took a picture with everyone, I was 12 years old, And I acknowledge how patient he was and polite with everyone. I realize now today how he represent himself as as a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ. He had the spirit of Jesus Christ living in him . Thank you Gary Carter for your love and loyalty to Jesus Christ! ✝️❤️✝️
