Social media in general is terrible for music. I have a friend in nashville and she met with a major executive. Executive didnt ask her about her music, what shes working on. First thing the executive asked was how many followers on tiktok she had. In a time where we all know majority of people on social media pay for likes, comments, shares and follows. These "executives" dont care about music or art. They only care about money and algorithms

I think the misconception is that musicians write an album in their beachside cabin, go and record it in a studio for a couple weeks, do an epic tour, and then cash in and swim in pools of money while the label does all the work. It's not magic or an easy career, it's like working 2 or 3 full time jobs

Used to be able to basically do that, but even then the labels were raping the artists

Personally TikTok for me was a blessing. I’ve been an independent artist for 10 years and the most organic growth I got was from TikTok in less than 2 years. Learn to use it and not use you is my advice

The only way I've made money as a musician is to ghost produce a song, make synth presets or get a sync license. Just releasing music isn't enough anymore.

Yeah every once in a while I come across a song I've known and enjoyed for an extremely long time and it's some horrendous basterdized version. Maybe the best example of all is a song that 99% of people have no idea who sings the original or have even heard the original. "Home" by Edward Sharpe and the magnetic zeros. My wife one day had me watch a clip of something and she was shocked I knew the words to that song.

I have been playing music for over two decades, , have recorded multiple albums with multiple bands, toured, been signed and have never turned a profit. playing music in America and being "successful" is like winning the lottery. if you're in it for the money, you'll more then likely be disappointed. the internet has been amazing for exposure, booking tours, connecting with fans...but making money as a band? Nah lol

Apparently you missed the part when $5,000 is the payout for (maybe 7 people) needing housing, food, transportation, maybe security) and you say "oh no! $5,000 is way more than you deserve)? Split that between 7 people $490 each but hotel costs would be triple that for a week. Stfu! You loser!
