It's always super impressive to me when someone can play this song well. But then I think, to have invented this, to engineer this sound in a time when no one else had ever heard anything like this...Jimi was truly a force of nature.

@@DonIsadick-mf3gvnot at all. voodoo child recording only has a 12 bar intro and this is way longer. plus, the drummer has an especially laid back swing which let’s the whole band sit in a different pocket. listen to voodoo child recording then come back to this right after, you’ll probably anticipate the vocals coming in early.

This is proper. The vibe is unreal. Really catches his mojo wallop. That groove? HELL YEAH! It's this circulating "boss in town" swagger coupled with his mojo & that SG with 90's melting through the mix and speakers. So KILLER! He's most definitely right about stepping to Voodoo Child. No way around you better be bringing a lot of groove and heat. Any Jimi song is risky for any guitar player. He's way too groovy. Gary here..F'N WELL DONE.💯

Wn a Bass player "Sets The Groove" & Locks Down a tight solid & soulful, Funky rhythm on a Rock song as 1 Unit with the drummers bass drum riding on the "Bass line rhythm" - then & only then does the " Voodoo Child have a Childhood. Then it becomes a Special Powerful song. WHY ? & How so? Bcuz Bass is the roots of the melody & rhythm which Creates the Feel. In other words, the bass player has to facilitate and feed the guitarist like a Point Guard on a basketball team

SRV, Buddy Guy, Robin Trower, John Mayer, Kenny Wayne Shepard, Gary Moore, Hiram Bullock, Govt. Mule, Billy Strings, to name a few have played VDC. Hendrix himself could never match the studio version. He’s probably the most overrated guitarist in history, covering up muddy playing with electronic effects. On acoustic, unplugged, he’d have been humbled by many, especially country rockabilly players.
@blakewalters68553 жыл бұрын

@@blakewalters6855 Blakey, first, it hurts realizing that not everyone idolizes your hero. But as you grow up, realize not everyone will agree with you. Secondly, Jimi was great for his time, a golden age of rock, psychedelia, etc. that I was totally immersed in, but there were others who could do what he did but were more reserved and didn’t have the narcissistic need to show it. Lastly, once you’ve seen great country, jazz, or fusion guitarists up close, display their mastery, creative musicality without the need for flamboyance and effects, then you’ve grown up. You seem to of acquire your knowledge from Wikipedia and KZbin. Worshiping Jimi Hendrix seems like a good way to spend your little life. Now run along and bother some other adult.

99% of the time, it is WELL advised to stay clear of playing Hendrix as a guitar player/guitar band. SRV did it justice....I dig the spirit here, I like the hypnotic backing rhythm. Your playing is money....not my favorite version, but this is my favorite homage to a guitar player's inspiration and do the artist and the song justice. Way to go Gary.....I respect you, your music, your vision and in this case....your take on some music that is tough to play on stage. We ALL play Jimi....We all LOVE Jimi....taking this on takes some courage, but more importantly it requires an artist to be humble. Honor what came before.....and honor the legend that is Hendrix. This is from the heart...Bravo.
