My mom laughed at me when I said bands like Exodus, Overkill, Testament, Metallica, Anthrax, etc are just as relevant as the ‘50’s and 60’s music she grew up with, and will be around for more than a few years. That was in 1986......and honestly, it’s really amazing all these killer bands are still rocking 40+ years later!! She eventually came around to understanding the appeal of metal music and conceded I was right. She even came to an Ozzy Osbourne concert back in the ‘90’s and had a blast.

Gary Holt has a great point. There are tons of films out there with gore and bad language yet the musicians are the ones that fall victim to these kinds of people. But whatever that was back in the 80s.

I agree exodus were brutal and had tons of satanic imagery but the reality of it is, it's no different than someone making a graphic horror movie. it doesn't mean the band believes in going out and pillaging and that they really believe in worshipping the devil. I'm a Christian, and I really just wish people would recognize that you have freewill and you can't blame a band for that stuff when you already said okay to horror movies which are much more influential than lyrics.

@ThazuaBlackarrow true my thing is when people are like 'oh yeah the big four of thrash great bands" but thats the only real thrash they know about thats how I used to be till I heard Razor then Vio-Lence, D.R.I., S.O.D., Voivod, Dark Angel. Now I like a good amount of older thrash bands besides just the big four.

If they really wanted to have a serious discussion, they should have gotten the album and read the lyrics. "Piranha" is tame compared to "No Love". Those words make me sick...but I love the sound.

@hez1919 Well this interview was from around the time Bonded by Blood and Pleasures of the Flesh were released dude, and that's what a lot of the lyrics on those albums are about. A lesson in Violence for instance. "I'm guarded by satan, i'm riding on baphomet. the pleasure of watching you die is what I will get." That is as satanic as anything slayer ever wrote. Besides it doesn't matter who "the most" satanic band is, the fact is that Exodus did have those kinds of lyrics.

I was a kid in the 80’s and now middle aged, just like these guys questioning Gary Holt. It’s now kind of sad watching guys my age grill a guy who maybe has turned 25 about his lyrics. I knew as a teen not to kick in faces and rape and murder wives and so did just about anybody else. As far as these lyrics influencing people, anybody who would do such a thing after hearing lyrics like that already has issues to begin with and would wind up doing something crazy regardless. Meanwhile people like this about lyrics are probably going on their warmongering rant in the next segment.

black metal who's talking about black metal this is a video for thrash metal..and balckmetal wasn't made until like the late 80s..there for black metal is just a tag along music it came from real metal bands like metallica,exodus and megadeth even black sabbeth from 1969 most of black sabbeth stuff isnt about satan and like i said satanism is a good subject in rock history so dont think every band you hear that lyrics about satan is santanic...and i didnt even mention black metal?
@hez191913 жыл бұрын
@smegmalfog i have heard them and didnt like them, which is why i said i am not framiliar with them. what is "best" from a band is ONLY personal opinion. my favorite album is impact from exodus, i would say THAT is their best stuff ....so who is right? hmm? come on? no one thats the correct answer because it is about personal taste. you should have said its what YOU like best

exodus did great by firing kirk hammet ,eevn tough a lot of people say he left the band,well the truth hammet was no match and has never and never be for gary holt,.

????? He left to go to Metallica. Gary was the one he told and Gary was OK with it because he knew what an opportunity it was for Kirk. Who are all you clueless people?? This comment section is fuckin lame

@mongoloidfred you know what, i randomly started listening to them not to long ago, and i got to say they are starting to grab my attention. i just have to listen a bit more before i can officially dismiss them, but none the less they got good songs
@Rattlehead181814 жыл бұрын
@skaterobban I know right and they also dont include the thrash metal bands from Germany, and other overlooked bands in the bay area its like wtf. In Exodus's case at least make it the Big 5, if you cant kick out Anthrax. Anthrax to me were more punk than they were thrash. I mean yeah they got a couple good songs, but really not enough to make them the big 4 in my opinion, they should be replaced by Exodus, Testament, Sodom, Kreator, or Destruction
@MetalHeart878715 жыл бұрын
