Gary Indiana Unexplored: Kirk Yard Entrance

A short trip from my house in Ambridge-Mann to Kirk Yard.

Captured an afternoon Westbound South Shore on the way to the infamous CN Kirk Yard. Just showing the power of the railroad in my city! Lots of exciting and sad changes happening in Gary as far as the railroads. My neighborhood sits right in between all the action!
Kirk Yard Engines:
Train One
1. CN 6008, 2. EJ&E 662, 3. CN 668
Train Two:
1. CN 6001, 2. CN 9632, 3. EJ&E 671? 621?
Don’t ask me about the unknown EJ&E that’s briefly shown. I have no idea if it is 671 or 621. I zoomed in as close as I could but I couldn’t make it out clearly. EJ&E 6?1.

Ha ha. Nice. I actually was on the USS site (before they blocked it off) passing out TShirts to the railroaders. The USS cops let me do my thing. Brings back memories.

Thanks for clearing that up for me @Traingamer15! I wasn't certain what the unknown EJ&E was. It's quite easy to get up there. Just drive on up! There is a credit union up there, so the road to where I ended up parking is quite open to traffic - but you're under the watchful eye of CN Tower of course. There were railroad workers and conductors everywhere. No one said anything to me, but as I said before I just had my cell phone. I wasn't pulling out tripods and cameras.

Very cool video! I've got to check this area out. I usually railfan from Pine Junction or East Chicago when in this area. I only see CN Tower from the Skyway.

Yeah it's a very cool spot. I don't know how CN feels about photographers being on property. I've never been personally accosted by security... still I tried to be as covert as possible, taking only my cell phone to use for a camera.

Yeah totally do that! Whenever you do please let me know and I'll check you out. The tower is like RIGHT THERE though lol so if you go, just keep that in mind. They may not pay you any attention but they CAN see you.
