Official music video for Mad World by Gary Jules & Michael Andrews from the 2001 film Donnie Darko, remastered in 4K using Machine Learning & hard work. There are four different 'official' music videos for this song, with this one appearing to be the most popular due to be it being directed by legendary French director Michel Gondry.
According to an interview with Gondry, film was used to give the music video a certain 'look'. This included the use of 1.4:1 as an aspect ratio and heavy grain. I stripped then re-added the grain in post-production to maintain the original artistic style, though KZbin's compression is likely to destroy this.

Look what the worlds come too..... 2024 I think of those we have lost in the years before and how it hurt that they are gone, but would we want them to be going through what we are now. Added to my "Songs for the Broken Heart" playlist.

Filmed on Garden Street between 4th and 5th in Hoboken, New Jersey. Jules is standing on the roof of the Mile Square Early Learning Center, which was formerly the A.J. Demarest Middle School, and the A.J. Demarest High School before that.

oh yes. youtube compression and grain...they don't mix. whenever i deal with grain, YT always kind of blurs it, makes it look weird even though it looks great in the original. this looks perfect! i'd love it if you could give me some tips cause i've been playing with this like it's a game i just can't finish :) not a tutorial, just a few guidelines. i always wonder what other approach can i take. what did you use here? did you work with it by exporting all the images and doing them one by one or was it a direct video upscale? i ended up here cause i'm trying to do the same video, always checking if someone already made a better one. i'm hooked on this :) and i'm really amazed here because everything here is small (faces far from the camera), there are no details in the original and still...this ended up looking great. nothing is overly distorted considering you went all the way to 4k. that's exactly why i'm trying it on this video.

Just watched this on KZbin for the first time today, knowing that my birthday is tomorrow, October 4th. I'll turn 39 years old and yes I look young for my age and I'm still single and I don't have a wife or girlfriend or kids or have had a first kiss 💋 from a girl.
