I came across this upload out of curiosity. It was documented that an ancestor had played "Bass Violin" in a church back in England in the days before organs. I just had to see how a hymn could be played on a bass. Now I know.

Harmonics. He's lightly touching the string to get these bell-like tones. There are a couple places where Karr fingers (presses down) on the string to get a more full sound (you can find these notes where he adds vibrato and when you see his knuckles lock as he presses down).
