Let me set the scene, late 90's, maybe early 2000's.. I just finished playing a gig in a pub in Kingston in the UK. The sort of place with sticky carpets, where you paid 5 quid on the door to watch a couple of live bands play some originals with a few covers thrown in. The guy that booked us in said to me not to tell too many people but next week Gary Moore was going to play there as a warm-up for his next tour. This was too good to miss, I came back the following week, paid my 5 quid on the door, got the back of my hand stamped and headed inside. Before I got to the room with the stage I could tell the place was packed as it was so hot. So much for keeping it quiet. I squeezed through a load of people to get a pint with my brother (both guitar players) and tried to get a good spot close to the stage to wait in anticipation. When it started I wasn't sure I could believe what was happening, the tone, the passion, the soul, the sustain...I just kept looking over at my brother... mouth open, eyes wide...we didn't say a word, we couldn't...there were no words. We were literally blown away. That little concert left its mark on me and since then I carry a little bit of Gary with me every day. Thanks Gary, thanks for being so awesome and an amazing inspiration.

A lot of people cover foxy (including me 😊) but Gary is the only one that has the feel like Jimi. I met Gary by accident during his 80's g-force days, I was playing with a cover band and he was in the same hotel. We got talking about guitars and he came by the room, I showed him my GL guitar. He picked it up and let it rip!! Wow! In his heavy accent said "fucking a right guitar man" I really didn't know who he was but I was a fan from that second. Months later I began to see who he was, I always followed his music and copped a lot of his style (people say I play to aggressive)🙄 I miss guitar players like Gary. A true musicians musicians. God bless you Gary! You gave it all. Peace.

The passion, the intensity, the blues, the simplicity. In my opinion this is why Gary Moore is bang on when playing Hendrix. It’s n0t supposed to be technically -perfect or have blistering scales and arpeggios. It’s all feel. Gary does it right. He can peel out and shred on his 80s rock stuff. This is not the material for that type- of playing. He knew it. He respected it. He got it. RIP GM.

Gary appeared unannounced at a benefit night in Dublin for legendary session guitarist Jimmy Faulkner who had just died, in 2008. It looked from the excitement that even the other musicians onstage (lots of big names) didn't expect him. I was never a fan so I was actually disappointed. And then for the next hour I have to admit I was blown away, I've seen both Jeff beck and Peter green and neither of them impressed me as much as Gary that night. The SOUND out of that guitar, the sustain, the tone, fantatic and he got it by sheer volume, no pedals or fx. His guitar was 10 times louder than anything onstage up til then and I initially just thought he was being the big star but, like Hendrix himself, that's how Gary gets that sound
