Also the fact he’s only ever known football under Fergie. Neville never had to deal with major dressing room unrest that affected performances in the pitch or player revolts because Fergie wouldn’t tolerate it. Players have much more power and this idea of self-entitlement nowadays. It only takes a few influential voices in the dressing room to conspire and the manager is fighting a losing battle.

Graeme is right, Mourinho hasn't improved a single player since he took over. Alexis was far better at Arsenal, Lukaku was the top scorer at his last season with Everton, Matic was a title winner with Kante in midfield at Chelsea, Rashford was on fire under Van Gaal for United and England when he played as a central striker, Fred was amazing for Shaktar and was wanted by Man City, Mata was POTY for 2 seasons running at Chelsea, Pogba was a WC winner with France and one of the best midfield players in the world at Juventus, Bailly and Martial have huge potential that is being squandered at the moment. These are not all bad players. Some of them aren't the right standard, but they're not all awful.
@cockoffgewgle49936 жыл бұрын
Didn't Van Gaal get 18 months, and he didn't get 4-500 million to spend? And he had a shitter squad than Mourinho when he arrived.

@janderson27096 жыл бұрын
That’s a fair point. Pogba is having a decent season though, as is Shaw, as is martial now, as is Lindelof. There are signs of progress. I don’t think anyone expected this team to beat City, they just don’t have the personnel. Lukaku isn’t a top level striker. He’s good against poor teams but lacks the touch and composure to mix with the best. Sanchez has no excuse to be playing as poorly as he is, that looks like it’s down to the individual to me. Matic is slowing down with age and looks lazy. The other defenders are absolutely shocking and so extra emphasis in the way united play has to be put on protecting said players. I think united need a pep-esque reshuffle. Get rid of the deadweight and sign 5 new players. 2 CBs, a fullback, a CM and a wide right player. Move on Sanchez, Smalling, young, Jones, lukaku. Start Rashford up front (who, by the way desperately needs to improve his finishing) with martial on the left, lingard as good cover.
@ChewyHands6 жыл бұрын
Manchester United finished higher last year then Sanchez ever did with Arsenal, Lukaku scored more goals than he ever did at Everton. This idea that these players are worse at United is bore out to the fact Mourinho is getting the best results possible for this team in the current climate, If Guardiola wasn’t at City last year it would have been a typical Mourinho hard fought league win to go along with his Europa league win. The conversation shouldn’t be about how bad Mourinho is doing it should be about how brilliant Guardiola is, he doesn’t just win stuff, he dominates and makes everyone around him look like an amateur.

@Josh Morgan - "You have no right to criticise the opinion of someone who has played 400 + games" That's stupid. By that logic, Neville should not be arguing with Souness, who has 539 club appearances under his belt, right? And Jamie Carragher has 508 appearances for Liverpool. Does that mean then when Neville argues with him about Liverpool, Neville is automatically wrong? How so? And yes, I have every right to give my opinion on anything or anybody, whether its about someone who has played 400+ matches or someone who has played 0 matches. If I feel that the person is being dishonest and biased about something, I have every right to voice my opinion on the matter. You can agree, disagree or even not bother commenting at all. @Happy Klopper apparently your missing the point completely. Whether or not Sanchez was in bad form before he went to Utd is irrelevant. Why is no one pointing out that the current Man Utd squad is a frankenstein mix & match from three very different coaches? You have signings from Moyes, Van Gaal and Mourinho all supposed to fit into one system...but they were signed for three different systems. Not only that but some of them were signed as sudden opportunities and don't fit into any of those three systems. Sanchez is a good example - a player that needs a team built around him in order to perform well. Klopp and Guardiola have built the teams they want, with players that fit into their systems. Wenger did too, but he obviously had 22 years to do so. But Man Utd keeps signing big names in order to sell shirts, instead of signing players for one single system. I'd rather see Man Utd go back to basics. Get rid of the disruptive egomaniac elements (Mourinho, Sanchez, etc) and create a system where the flair players like Pogba and Lingard are allowed freedom to roam and attack when surrounded by the more disciplined players like Matic and Valencia. Use Lukaku as a battering ram and overload opposition with a Martial-Lukaku-Rashford front three, supported by excellent passers behind them.

Disappointed in Gary's response. I understand what he is trying to say but Graham is correct.Jose IS NOT getting the best out of this group of players. Jose IS a great Manager and his record is not to be disputed. But he has a style that works with the right type of players and the right type of club. His struggles with Manchester United are due to the fact this group and this club do not suit his style. Jose could be challenging for the title if he has a group that included Pericic , Lakaku, Icardi, Willian, Matic, Pogba, Fellani, Bonnuci, Alderweirweld, Sandro, Milinković-Savić, Valencia. These are the type of players that he has or has tried to get at Manchester United. A group that is well established, in their primes or at the end of their prime and who will put in a shift. This is a group that he could stop any team and still get a goal or two. When Jose came to Chelsea they hadn't won for over 50 year and in his first year Chelsea lost 1 game and set a then EPL record of 95 points. That team had Drogba, Lampard, Terry, Duff, etc, etc. But if one looks at that team they score 72 goals his first year but only gave up 15 the whole season. His teams won with Defense not Offense. The second year brought another EPL title and again 72 goals was scored. Jose Maurinho has NEVER managed any EPL team to more than 73 goals in ANY season. He wins by being meticulous about every detail in preparing his team to DEFEND and disrupt and stop any team in the game, while relying on quality offensive players to nick a goal. In essence he's tony pulis with an open checkbook which works at Chelsea, Porto and Inter. The 3 years he spent at Madrid Jose's teams score over 100 goals on 2 occassions.....why? One word RONALDO. Christiano scored 46 goals by himself one year but Jose still wanted him to track back.That's Jose;s style. But this Manchester United club has better offensive potential than defensive potential. Jose was right , last year was one of his best years coaching because he actually got a team that had more offensive potential to play defensively and it didn't hurt that he had the best GK in the world, who won another best player of the year award. Jose doesn't have to change and start playing Barcelona style football. That's not his comfort zone and not every team can play that way. But what can be done with this group of players is to find the offensive style, formation and system that can unlock Pogba, Marital, Rashford, Sanchez, Lingard, Lakaku, Fred, and Periera. These are the names that Jose has and not the Willian or Pericics of the world. He is trying to force a group of young creative players into a style that does not maximum their skill set and that is proving to be a problem. Three years into his reign and he still is mixing, matching and trying to design ways to stop City, Liverpool, Bournmouth and Newcastle with this group. One last stat: Manchester has scored more than 2 goals in the EPL once this year in 12 games and 3 times in their last 18 EPL games dating back to last year. CIty has scored over 5 goals twice within the last month. United's brand has been built on Cantona, Beckham, Ronaldo, Giggs, Scholes, Rooney, VanNistleroy. Manchester United is not a publicly traded company because of the style of play of Ferdninad, Bruce, Neville or Vidic. Defense does win trophies and SAF and SIr Matt knew that but they also knew people spend their well earned money to see goals.

I know Manchester United hierarchy didn’t back him in the summer but too languish how they are currently, the coaching staff and the player need to take a look at themselves because if your team plays like that either the manager is handed his P45 or there a potential clear out of some dead wood in the squad.

Very honest despite talking about his club. Some fans will never say their team's crap even when it's obvious. Great punditry! The Manchester United board really need to take a *good, long and hard* look at themselves in the mirror. They've been awfully incompetent. Ever since taking control of the club, but the amazing Sir Alex papered over many cracks with his tactical genius, keeping Man United a fearsome outfit despite the mediocre signings like Anderson being bought in. Without him, the cracks are there to see and teams are just no longer afraid of United and rightly so. They're trash. I have a lot of sympathy for Jose but he really shouldn't have been signed. He never suited United. He was a great manager (and is still decent) in his prime but I feel he's not a rebuilder. He'll come in, spend and grant a team instant success. Man United were/are a team in need of a rebuild. Jose wasn't the right man for the job. Someone like Leonardo Jardim would've been ideal. I think he has potential to be a great manager if he can keep the spine of his team. Of course, a director of football needs to be hired. @syphonstube6 жыл бұрын
I agree on a few of your points on the board but can you tell me the success Graham Sourness has had as a coach in a top league managing top players please? Jose can't rebuild? The Porto team fell from grace as Benfica and Sporting started to rise... He took over, was allowed control, signed his players, won trophies and the next manager had a better squad to keep challenging. Chelsea were trying to break into the elite over Arsenal invincibles and SAF's utd. He took over, was allowed to sign his players, won trophies, the next manager was left with a tremendous squad of winning players with strong mentalities. (Who kept/keep winning regardless of managers) Went to inter, who wanted to capitalise on Juve and others sanctions, was allowed to sign his players, won trophies including CL against one of the best Barca teams, again the next manager was left with a group of strong mentality winners. Went to real Madrid, again a team who had fallen from grace to Peps Barca, they had not got past last 16 or group stage in CL for like the last 6 years before he took over! Was allowed to sign his players, he won trophies, broke scoring records, and his signings are still winning trophies at all respective clubs. Chelsea employed him twice and he brought trophies to them twice. All the players he signs that work hard and have good professional mentalities all win together. Until the board allow him or any other manager to fix the team in the way they want to, we're doomed! Calling out for Jardim? What has he won at a club that has anywhere near the scrutiny of Man Utd? Will our board AND our disgusting fan base give Jardim the time to transform Smalling, Young, Darmien, Jones, Felliani into slick passers and movers? Because if they say "No Mr Jardim, you can't sign the players you want, we believe you have a talented squad and the team came 2nd only last year, your a coach right Mr Jardim? So 'coach' them" Will Jardim make Martial actually try to give his teammates more time or options on the ball by running into space more? Deschamps keeps telling Martial he needs to do it for France (btw he hasn't been listening he's entire career go check what Martial previous coaches and teammates have said about him) Will Jardim get Rashford to finish better? Or make Young and Valências crosses better? What if the board buy him one part of a jigsaw and tell him to coach the rest? Romulu Lukaku or any striker needs quality balls into the box like I dunno Perisic maybe? How many times did Ander give the ball away compared to Matic and Felliani against City? Don't see many on here complaining about Ander, why? Because they like him and don't like others lol Half the team shouldn't have been starting the game as theyre not fit, against a City team full of confidence and sharpness. @@blacklightning7570 Your missing Gary's point like most fans who dislike Jose. He's NOT defending José, he's defending the position on "Manchester United Manager". That position must be respected supported by the board and respected by the players. If you have a team rowing a boat and any member decides to row the opposite way, surely the manager is allowed to discipline them. If they make a mistake that's fair enough. Jose is working with a team that makes mistakes, after mistakes after mistakes. Game after game. Unfortunately people who hate Jose and or Utd tend not to notice Ander Herrera getting caught on the ball many many times in the first half which depletes confidence and butchers any type of momentum your trying to build. Go watch again as an analyst and not a fan. See how many times City "break us down with good play" compared to "us breaking down our own moves". City mainly got momentum from our mistakes, that then lead to panic. There is a difference, especially at the top level, you have to minimise mistakes and make your opponent work to score, like Bonucci and Ronaldo world class goal to conceded, no problem with that.... Luke Shaw and Matic not following runners is criminal, but understandable given the opposition. GGMU In Jose I Trust!

@skn60706 жыл бұрын
That's just rubbish , If transfers can't actually fix a team infact any team then I don't know what will mate . Transfers show desire of the owners and that's where the owners and Woodward have been so bad. You see city who had B.Silva,Sterling and Sane in the wings and they still went and got Mahrez whereas Woodward didn't want to get Toby because we have 5 CBS LOL. Absolute Shambles. Transfers are genuinely the thing we need , 4 good players in different positions and I think we are good enough to come back. People overexaggerate our crisis way too much .

@@skn6070 you're right, but he was making a good point. City spent a lot of money, but they bought players that fit their system, give quality depth etc. They have a clear idea of what to search for in the transfer market. Look at B.Silva, they bought him before the CL final in 2017, as they knew he'll go for a lot. Buying Walker, Mendy, Laporte, Gundogan and Mahrez, it's all their clear plan. While United, as you can see, in every transfer whisper, they are linked to every single player that manage to strike form. They desperately need a director of football

Gary Neville is a disgrace. Souness knows this thats why he came at him with a direct question. The manager needs to go before the style of play changes, everybody can see it. But Gary just talks and talks a whole bunch of crap without saying anything
@thekreflondon86096 жыл бұрын
@Cameron Brown Yes the issues with the board are valid and the structure of the club needs to change. There’s no guarantee that a new manager will turn this around. The problem is we havent had a good recruitment process. Van Gaal wasn't better at all but in the 2 seasons he was here at this point in the league he has equaled and surpassed respectively points tally of Jose this season. As bad as he was, we are regressing more under Mourinho (points wise). In 2 years of lvg he spent £260m. Jose has spent almost £400m, we are presently 8th with a negative goals differential and yes we were 2nd last season but we were 19 points behind city! We have never had that point difference from the top teams under lvg. Gary should call a spade a spade no one says he should demand for the manager to leave but be truthful to what the issues are.
@thekreflondon86096 жыл бұрын
Cameron Brown Yes. Of course he's not backed and this goes back to my previous point about money. It's all about the money esp for a CEO like Ed, who's tasked with generating money for the club. True that players are over valued for Utd but that's for all the big clubs. No club or club CEO wants to lose a dime if they can help it esp when there's no value from players bought. I don't blame Ed either. Bailly, 30mil, injured, now benched and embarrassed. Miki, 27mil, swapped for a $600,000 a week player that has not delivered since he arrived. Miki said that in an interview that he wanted to play "offensive football". Probably explains why Alexis has been bust since he arrived. Rom, £75 mil, no value. Matic, 40 mil, no value. Dalot, no value. Fred, 50 mil, no value, proved Ed right this season. Aside from Pogba who wants to leave and Lindeloff who's just started playing regularly, Zlatan was the best value for money of Jose's players and he was let go. Why would Ed trust Jose with any money? Would you? In regards to player personnel, doesn't matter who plays the system (if we have one) will not change. You can buy Messi and bring back 30 year old Maldini in the team, it will not change. City and lpool, have a system that works and regardless of personnel changes, the system is the same. It's glaring to everyone watching. We dont have that. We have nothing. The Juve game was a fluke. Jose admitted that he didn't want to start Fellaini against city but bring him in as a sub which he always does in the last minutes of every game we're losing since he came in as a manager and that crap worked with Juve. Rubbish tactics.

Pretty sure he did? If it was just jose, then why did united still struggle under moyes and van gaal? Does getting a new manager in make Manchester united title challengers? Its all well and good saying jose has spent a lot of money, but its like a spending x amount on a turbine, and it not working without fracturing as you didnt spend enough on the materials needed. United are lacking in defence, in midfielders who can actually create attacking plays, and reliable goalscorers.
@fugitivemoses75156 жыл бұрын
Chris Hinks Jose has admitted himself that he doesn't coach his teams on attacking Play he focuses his attention on the defensive side and then allows his flair players to work their magic on the attacking third. So it don't matter if he signs Messi or finds a Franco Baresi clone somewhere, the football is NEVER gonna change thats the reason i want him gone. It's a tactical problem Chris, Jose's tactics doesn't fit the football tradition of the club not saying he's a bad manager, it's just a wrong fit for United, a bad marriage like Cantona alluded to
@keithlard35446 жыл бұрын
@@fugitivemoses7515 Van gaal played attacking passing football though? The players just were not good enough. A few of jose's teams have banged goals in for fun, it just depends on the players available. There are a lot of players just not good enough to win the league. It would be amazing if there was a magic wand that would allow the team to be that good, without spending more, but it just isnt possible. Pep couldnt make a title winning team with zabaleta and kolarov as rb and lb, so he went and bought players that could. There comes a time when regardless of how much money has been spent, more is needed to get the players needed to be at the top level. Dont get me wrong, jose has made some signings that havent turned out to be good enough, and thats on him, but regardless of what manager is there, they need to spend a lot of money on that team. So its clear the problem is not just the manager. Pep wouldnt win the league with team. Yeah, the club is known for attacking football, but its more known or winning. How many outstanding attacking performances happened under the last title win? I remember it being lots of scrappy wins, but wins nonetheless. Joses style of football is not the problem. The problem is the recruitment, which falls at jose, ed Woodward and the owners. They need a strategic long term plan of building a team, not just thr odd sprinkle of luxury magic players that you should only buy as final pieces to a team. Solid defence and keeper, balanced midfield that can control the game and get the ball into attacking positions, reliable goalscorer, then you can begin to add the pogba's and Sanchez's
@fugitivemoses75156 жыл бұрын
Chris Hinks Your right to an extent. It was only during the final 3seasons leading up to SAF retirement that the quality of football dropped but that's about it. Through out the 90's to 2010 the club always played an attractive Brand of football even with technically deficient players. True pep needed heavy investment to make City successful but if I remember well even his first season, the football was always great it was just that the result didn't match follow the performances. Pound for pound(Bar City) our team is as good all the other eams in the top 6 yet Utd plays the Worst Brand of football

@@fugitivemoses7515 I agree, we should be playing the football of when we had yorke/cole or the ronaldo/rooney/berba/tevez days. As a fan ive seen enough fight over the last few games to want to let jose play out his plan. City did play nice football, but pep still took over a team with silva, de bruyne, ferndandinho, kompany and aguero. Jose had smalling, mata, herrera, fellaini and rooney. Thats the difference. Id say Chelsea and liverpool have better 11s. Jorginho, kante, kovacic, hazard Van dijk, keita, salah, firmino, mane(martial in his current form is better) All would get into uniteds team

I feel like the biggest problem with United is a lack of leadership the whole team is full of youngsters who are all caught up on social media. Don't get me wrong there's nothing wrong with social media but the team is full of egos. United don't have the players anymore like they used to such as Giggs, Scholes, Carrick, Zlatan and Rooney who we're great leaders who set the example for the team. Another issue is that we buy players and end up benching them. Why did we buy these players for millions? They're supposed to improve the team. I still believe the players United bought can improve the team. I still have faith in Alexis Sanchez I feel like Mourinho has really put him down and has gotten into his head so he's not performing. Same goes for the rest of the players that were bought. They aren't playing and now they don't have the spirit to play for United anymore. The problem is Jose Mourinho and the Board they are deluded and they don't have faith in their investments. This is a real big issue and it needs to get solved fast. Every time we sell or bench a player that we bought to improve the team starts us over to where we're at before.
@HenSt-gz7qj6 жыл бұрын
compared to what Pep has bought for City : - KDB = starter* - Laporte & Stones = starter - Walker & Mendy = starter - Sane, Bernardo, & Mahrez = starter/rotation* - Ederson = starter - Jesus = rotation - Gundogan = rotation - Zinchenko = rotation - Danilo = rotation - Bravo = rotation (supposedly, before the injury) etc. half of them are starters and the others, although not always starting, they still get a decent amount of game time.
