TV And VIDEO makers may like to know that we were allowed only 20 mins to shoot this ! As I directed it I know I only too well how grateful we were have this calibre of band in the studio , so 20 mins allowed just 3 multi-camera passes with with a 4 minute 'turnaround ' break between passes. Unfortunately we had to ASSUME that the performers knew the lyrics and were able to mime. Sometimes they did and sometimes they didn't. We were competing with the BBC 's TOP OF THE POPS, RAZZ transmitted late afternoons on Wednesday so we often outshone TOTP which transmitted early evening on Thursdays. RAZZ. Regularly got 6Million viewers.

Great, under-the-radar Numan track... one of three or four asthma great songs from Numan's classic synth period... love the shifts & exotic flourishes which only he can do so musically.... how did this guy go astray in those years I'll never understand... his music is so captivating & dustinct

Wait is that Pino Palladino on bass? It has to be him. The sound is a dead giveaway in and of itself.

I've never taken psychotropic drugs before, or any drugs for that matter, but somehow while watching this video, it seems like an appropriate thing to do.

I can’t help but wonder why the video had a 1940's American gangster theme.... very weird...

Gazza changed his image from album to album and I seem to recall that his mum made a good deal of what he wore on stage ( Jumpsuits and belts etc.). There were a number of bands who wore 1940s style clothing during the early 80s in England ( Blue Rondo/ Matt Bianco, Spandau Ballet), and I read in The Face that this style had been 'rediscovered' by the fashionable London folk who attended Blitz ( Years after August Darnell). Gazza went with a completely different look for him and similar to the besuited 'New Romantics' on Dance ( As one of his many critics noted in a review of the album). Plus the hats covered his receding hairline. Bless him. We had to wait for the 90s for him to find himself again, and I believe his wife told him he should just be himself. Kudos!

He was into the whole 1930s/1940s gangster imagery back then. He even bought the classic car that you'll see in the Dramatis 'Love Needs No Disguise' video.
