The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

The best band for 60's / 70's nostalgia. As a black boy from an predominantly soul music listening environment I became a solid fan of Gary Puckett and The Union Gap at 8 years old in 1973 and still a fan. I am very surprised they don't have their booking in the music HoF because their music stood a test of time and for a person growing up in the 70's for that moment they place me in a much better more innocent USA.....

Every time I hear this song, It takes me back to my teenage years in the late 80's early 90's- my dad would drive me around on my paper route and we'd listen to 60's music, then go to Mcdonald's for breakfast before he had to head off to work, and I off to school. I can still feel the air conditioner running at full blast in our van in the 4am darkness- dad and I having some good father/son time. We spent a lot of time driving around going places when I was growing up....used to listen to songs like this on AM radio before "oldies" stations took hold.

For the original Civil War outfits, Gary said, "“I took the guys to a place in Los Angeles called Western Costume, that’s where all the movie people would go to get their World War two outfits, their Indian outfits, their colonial outfits, whatever it was. So I rented one Civil War outfit because we couldn’t afford to buy them, we were all pretty poor. I took the guys to Tijuana and found a tailor, spoke no English and I spoke no Spanish, and he looked at the jacket and nodded his head and wham, he made the first outfits."
