You can record audio as long as you don't pass to a third person, the audio can only be used in your defence if it goes to court and you accused you can use in your defence,, surveillance devices act,, every time you go to a cop station desk your conversation is record and they are bound by same act. You must be part of the conversation or be close enough for the people in the conversation to reasonably expect to be over heard. I heard about this a couple of years ago and but now just seen this vid. I'm really surprised because I used to work with that officer at a nightclub. He's actually a really cool dude. Why do police officers have such a self interpreting notion about law. If this is a public area the officer was just dead wrong. In Australia it's allowed. Private ground is different. But at least the officer was wrong or explained it completely wrong. Don't know how hard it is for officers to understand that you are allowed to be filmed. But my 6 year old understands it. Maybe a national advertisement so it sticks and they stop lying for their own benefit. That's how police lose all respect mate.
