I don’t use stick baits much anymore especially for “wacky” rigging. I use the ORIGINAL zoom speed worm with a center pin screw keeper in the middle. I can usually catch 4-5 fish per bait, something about the flat tail makes the fish on my lake eat it.

When I got into the stickbait game I bought yums and Big bite because they were cheaper. After falling in love with the technique, I decided to splurge and buy some senkos. I noticed that when I was catching fish on the sinko and losing a worm per bite because they're not durable. I ended up switching back to the dunger that day. I caught just as many bass. Another time I was struggling with getting bites in the senko and I switched to the yum and started catching. After that, decided that the yums and a much lower price point were better for me

@@LowBrowFishing thankfully that's no longer the case for me, I am a fly fisherman now LOL. All things being equal, why overpay for the senko when other options do just as well at a lower cost? Also, since the senco has low durability, when you go fishing you have to bring multiple packs with you. Half of your tackle storage is senkos for crying out loud
@scots2129
@scots2129 5 ай бұрын
@@ericsh8576 absolutely, that could have been the case. At the end of the day, however, even if the senko's were better than other options, they're not that much better to justify the higher cost and lower durability. I fish a lot with the Slinko now which is also a Yamamoto product and it has a lot of the same issues. You get one fish out of them and they're expensive. However, they work very well and until a good alternative comes around, I don't mind paying for them

Different baits for different uses. The Dinger and most of the other cheap stick baits are really good with a weighted rig because the extremely slow sink of those baits pairs better with external weight. However, I mostly use stick baits weightless, either Texas or wacky rigged, and in that application, the Senko is still the king with the Bass Pro Stick-O being the runner up. The combination of the action and sink rate isn't matched by any other bait in a weightless rig. Not only do they flat catch fish, but every bass over 6 lbs (and that's a big bass out here in the desert) has come on either an OG Senko or the BPS version. They do tear up more easily, but I'd rather have to swap out the bait every other fish than fish the same one all day and not get bit. Mend-It works great to put them back in action as well.

I free rig a lot of Zman hula stick baits, because they float upwards. I'll use Dingers for neko rigs, and senkos or ocho's for normal wacky rigs. Throwing weightless Texas rigged, I catch as many or more on Berkley Generals. Throwing wacky rigged, I catch more on the Yamamoto Senkos. My problem with Senkos is the fact that it’s usually one fish per worm, and at the price point, it’s crazy. I will say that I get multiple fish when wacky rigging with the VMC Crossover rings. Interesting commentary. We just moved from Idaho to Tennessee. Idaho is trout, steelhead and Salmon. Many consider a Bass 'Trash' fish. We were just like that until we started going just for Bass. We didn't know anything about them or fishing for them. A buddy said Senko's Green and it's variants. The reservoir we fished in was 12 miles long and a 1 wide. Yes, a swollen river with depths to 160 ft. We could only fish 1/2 days as the skiers and the like would run us off by 1 Pm. Fishing 2-3 times a week only in reasonable weather we 90+ percent of the time we caught 15 a piece in 4 hours. The record was 72 landed by 2 of us in a little over 4 hours. The single record was 7 fish in 7 casts in less than 7 minutes. At 5500 + feet and with the brutal winters the smallies were just that! SMALL. The biggest we ever caught was 19 3/4 inches. It was fat but we didn't even own a scale. We were catch and release. YES! you guessed we would catch 500 each give or take each season. ALL of them on the Senkos weightless with 1/0 Gamakatsu EWG's. Now I'm thinking what if we had tried others? Living on the Tennessee River has been a wake up. Much bigger fish and Largemouth. Baitcasting with an array of lures but the learning from guys like you has made it a compete hobby! You're not going to chase me off! I listen to everything you say. Love the NO BS comentary....Keep it up and your 'Tip' too :)

Every person has a right to their opinion, I personally don't have any senkos, never have bought them for one, they are expensive & the other they are too soft from what the reviews have said, most people they say they are the best is because they sponsored by them, the Yamamoto baits that I have are the hula grubs & they are soft don't hold very long, I'm big on zman, but it would be hard to use them for the Waco rig! Keep telling it like is!👍

Your crazy I have tons of different brands of senko style stick baits and none of them catch bass like the Yamamoto Senko for whatever reason they just work better, now if I’m Texas rigging I will use a Yum Dinger but wacky rigging has to be a Yamamoto senko! But I understand where you’re coming from. But the Googan Lunker log is the closest I’ve found to a Original Senko and they work good but the Max Scent General stick baits are more expensive than Yamamoto senko’s. Also I’m kidding you’re not crazy it’s just your opinion!

Lol yeah I would have to disagree and along with almost every tournament angler I know. The action and fall rate is unmatched. Have wasted alot of money trying new and different stickbaits and none catch fish like the yamamoto senko.

I kinda agree, i like to catch more than 1 or 2 fish on a bait. Yamamoto has great action but tear apart way to easy and way over priced. I take a Yum and use a blade to put a couple slices just past half point on both sides and it has better action. And lasts forever. Everyone has there own so im not dissing the yamamoto, its just not for me. $$$ Tight lines

I watch for your real deal experience. Senko is soft and expensive. And other stuff works so yes you are just calling it like you see it. Should be no heat over this. I have them and use them but I have been just as successful with the other stuff. I still believe its not so much about the bait as it is finding the active fish. Most stuff works when you find them active. Senko is what the advertisers push is the basic deal. I understand the business side and therefore have no problem with it. But agree with you. Keep up your style and presenting experience that you have.

I don't think there's a fisherman alive that doesn't have certain types of lures in their bass fishing arsenal that rarely if ever catch fish. For the longest time I owned and fished with chatter baits, spinners baits and jigs that have never caught a damn thing for me, name brand and generic. After over a year and a half of fishing with my chatter baits I finally caught a bass with one. After that, for some reason I started routinely catching bass with chatter baits. Just last week I got my first hit on a spinner bait. I've been fishing with them since my mid-twenties. I'm 68 years old now and that's how long it took me to finally get a bite on a spinner bait. The Jig is the only bait I have now that I haven't caught a bass with. I've left instructions to my family to throw all my jig baits into the casket with me when they bury me if I haven't caught anything with them before I die. No sense burdening anyone else with them if they don't catch a damn thing.

Man, you’re just cheap. And that’s your right. But the idea that Senkos aren’t effective is just nonsense. All the other stickbaits on the market are just derivatives of the Senko. One of the things I find disturbing about the fishing culture right now is an ever increasing lack of appreciation for quality, craftsmanship & innovation. People are free to buy whatever lures they want but they’re not entitled to have their facts about them. Your feelings about something are not facts. Just feelings.
