LoL you’re so right about CeMap qualification vs real life cases. Pre MMR was much simpler, great point of view regarding CAS status. I’ve worked in a building society for 8 years, BTL’s & mortgage service I’m currently studying for my CeMap. The building society has been one of the most ethical financial institutions I have come across. Your videos are a great help in not just self development but how to do a job to the best of your ability. I have come across far too many dissatisfied customers who can say nothing but bad things about their mortgage broker. It’s a guide of what not to become 🙄

Hi Gary, really insightful and super helpful vide!! I love how direct and to the point you are. My question is the following, I have a full time job as a sales manager, nothing to do with mortgages. I am newly qualified as cemap and I am looking for exactly the support and training that you described. I have my own mortgage to pay and a family so I cannot give up my current job to train, but I am flexible in the day and I’m extremely dedicated and hard working to work any hour Gd sends to learn. Would it make sense to offer a firm to work for free, generate my own leads and offer the firm majority of my commission in return for full and active mentoring and support through all the types of complex cases you mentioned. It might sound crazy but I know that what you said is 100% true - the knowledge and experience is worth more in the long term - I just need a plan to approach firms with to explain a mutually beneficial. Thanks again for all your incredible content!

I wouldn’t work for free. Maybe do it alongside your job for 6-12 months and build a brand, leads and pipeline for when you go all in self employed

Mentoring an adviser is hugely time consuming, I do not do it personally as i have a team of 20. Your best bet is to apply to join my firm and then we can support you to gainin CAS and understanding how to do the job efficiently and professionally. I'm looking at getting back into being a broker, after a 10 year break - and getting CAS is my biggest concern. I have been given an opportunity to self-start under franchise - but CAS is my concern. How on earth can I get CAS without network support?
@GaryDas4 жыл бұрын
The company you are working for / under will give you CAS, or at least they should. CAS is simplying checking the advice you have given is accurate. I would ask them!
@sizwesabawu72373 жыл бұрын
My understanding is that CAS is firm specific and cannot be taken to the next firm....you get there and do it again. Is that correct? Great content BTW.
@GaryDas3 жыл бұрын
Thanks. CAS is "competent adviser status" If you gain it with 1 firm, the next firm will take it into consideration, but they are still required to do their own due diligence and make sure you are competent to their standard, so they will review files, check your advice and give you CAS. A new firm is more likely to hire someone who is deemed competent before joining them

Hello Gary, I did my CeMAP in 2003 or 2004 I can't quite remember now. I am a broker in Australia and moved here in 2005. Out of interest, has the industry changed much since then? I am considering returning to the UK and looking at options.
@GaryDas2 жыл бұрын
Hey Rob, it hasnt changed at all. I ducked out to do insurance only 2009 to 2015. All i would say now is the criteria is harder than ever and research takes alot longer!

once you achieve cas with one firm, is that permanent or do you need to achieve cas with every firm you work with?
@GaryDas3 жыл бұрын
Compentant adviser status is always assesed by the firm or network you are working with, if you have had it before they usually treat you differently to a trainee. If you join my firm for example I want to make sure you are up to my expected standards and do things the way we want irrespecitive of how much experience you have.

Hello Sue. With me what I did was visit a few local mortgage brokers. I managed to get an interview the next day in one and now working there as a mortgage admin and hopefully get trained to advisor if the principal thinks I'm doing well. I'm new to all this with no prior financial and mortgage experience except for a few months estate agency experience so the principal knew this and that he'll have to train me from scratch but he still took me on. Best to be proactive and physically visiting these places 👍.
