I get soooo sick of xmas music.... Except for Hoey's. I can listen to his and just never burn out on it. A guitarist that lives permanently on my shortlist of greats... and too few even know his name.

Had the joy of meeting you in Auburn Hills at FYE. My son and I enjoyed watching you play there. When you finished playing and started to sign autographs, We thought it would be sign and NEXT!!!!. But you talked to each one of us from 5-10 min each. Thank you again for being thoughtful to us as people and not just another customer. This is why you will always ROCK!!!!!!

Awesome job as usual! I watch all your videos. From a fellow guitarist I just want to say you are extremely underappreciated in the rock and guitar world. One of the best hope to see you in show soon!

Saw him in Spokane when he opened for Joe Satriani. Sadly I'd never heard of him at the time. He didn't have his band, just played along with his iphone as the backing track. It's the only time I've ever wanted the opening act to keep playing lmao. Guy is awesome!

I remember meeting him in a close invitation at a Guitar store just shortly after his first child was born. ( This was in Virginia Beach ) I cannot for the life of me remember the shop. He was a guitar promotional tour. I knew the store owner so he called me up and told me to get my ass down to the store and that he had a surprise for me and I could bring one friend. I get there and he told me to sit in the front row of folding chairs. I about shit my pants when I saw Gary come open the door. ( He has always been my favourite ) It was just him and he had this box that was a amp and had drums sounds coming it out of it. He played a few songs. It was sweet. So finally I got to go up there to meet him. I told him that I had a hard time getting my left hand and right hand to get in sync to play guitar. He saw that my fingers are small and asked what guitar that I owned. I told him that I owned 2 Fender strats. He said that I should ditch those and get a Ibanez because their necks are thinner and it would be much easier. About the sync thing. He told me to learn how to trill. He showed me. Then he said something that i will never forget. He said you trill ling enough you get a cool looking muscle on your wrist and you can put sun tan oil on it and the chicks will love it. LMAO He also told us the story of when he grew up riding his bike home. While kids were playing outside he would be practicing. His parents could not afford him to go to college so he just bought the books and taught himself. Then he told us the story that Berklee wanted him to teach for them. He is a helluva a nice guy and I still playing the Ibanez. The trill thing worked. =)

I can totally relate. I saw him at an independently owned record store in Portland Oregon called "Music Millennium" in 1999. The action was so close that people were blinking their eyes like his playing was some sort of magic. And when I got to the front of the line and bought every pre-autographed CD available he came over and talked with me. Super nice guy. A day I will never forget.
