Dear Gary, I just want to thank you for the abundance of knowledge you share with us. I have learned so much from you and I also want to mention that you are the only one that IS NOT about having the camera in his face constantly like everyone else. It is so much better to watch the plants and see the actual interaction with them rather than watch someone's face as they go on talking for an eternity. You are an actual teacher and it is clear you want to share and teach in the most effective way. I just wanted to let you know how great this channel is and how much I really love it (you). Thanks again.

Another great way to use zucchini is to make flour out of them. We grate them and spread the zucchini over our dehydrator trays and dry them out. Once dry it gets put into a food processor and turned into flour. It makes great flour and is used at a ratio to regular flour of 1 to 1. The products don't rise as much but is a healthy alternative when needed for health reasons.

I love your channel. Thank you for the information from your indoor seed starting series because you saved us quite a bit. Six Black Krims, 6 Brandywines, 10 cukes, 50 peas, and many sweet peas. Oh yes, 4 zukes are too many for 2 people, 200 potato onions (doing wonderfully), 150 garlic (I think I got greedy and planted them too close but they are doing great!). Needless to say, my spring garden is over and the summer garden is in full swing. My husband and I love watching your channel and every time you mentioned using something OTHER than "organic" fertilizer or anything... I cringed because I know you'll get crushed in the comment! Thank you for weathering through the judgemental portion of the population 😂 We, little people, appreciate what you do. Thank you!

Great advice!!! As I continue to live with prgressive vision loss, I put more value into preventative measures rather than relying on my sighted sous gardener. :) Being able to garden makes such a huge difference in my life, I am grateful to do it even though my mini trnips get bugs, and my squash plants get beetles. Thanks for this video. I have my 1st garden this year, and have been so confused over what to do and how to care for it. This video helped me a whole lot! More than others I've watched. My squash and zucchini are growing better than anything else I planted, well the beans are doing pretty good too. I noticed some squash bugs about a week ago, so I've been on here trying to figure out what to do, but I absolutely hate bugs, and have been wanting to just run far away from the whole garden, LOL! But I'm determined to make this garden work. Really enjoyed the video & it was very helpful. Thanks again!

As far as the vine borers are concerned I had an antique gardening book that spoke of using liquid BT, and using a syringe that you can get at a feed store to essentially inject BT into the stem where the vine borers are located and eating the plant.

Bt really worked for me last year, bloody vine borers wiped out half my crop before i realized what was happening, but it's almost impossible to find in store in my area, I'm trying liquid spinosad this year, just be careful with spinosad as it's dangerous to bees for a few hours after applying

Hi Gary thank you for all your information and to the point videos. I’ve watched you for years and you taught me how to garden. I’m still leaning from mistakes lol but that’s part of the process. All my squash plants this year are wrapped in insect netting fastened with garden clips because my ground squirrels here in eastern California like to demolish my garden. All my squash (spaghetti, butternut, yellow, zucchini) are all growing beautifully and are producing a lot of flowers finally (I got a late start because of the squirrels demolishing my first crop) but all of the female fruit are rotting before they even flower. I added epsom salt today to help take up the calcium and ordered a rot stop product. But could the reason they are all rotting because they are wrapped all day in the insect netting? Thanks and God bless 👩🏻🌾
@THERUSTEDGARDEN4 ай бұрын
Learning as you go is for sure part of the process. The squash rot when they are not pollinated. So there is nothing you can do. The pollinators need to move pollen from the male flowers to the female flowers. I've found that Squashs and zucchini are easier to grow and manage in Totes. I love my Tote garden, way less bug issues. Gary I spray my cucumbers and squash with the Dr bronners peppermint Castile soap after pruning to cover up smell. I started with 4 squash plants and now have one after the vine borer destroyed my other 3. So far my last plant shot up to 6 feet after pulling those plants. I finally see my first female flower today 😀

Do you water the leaves? When we do the plants get powder blight.
@charliewilliams87943 жыл бұрын
Try to alway water by the roots it helps keep down disease like powder mildew. Not just squash but all your plants will do much better if you water close to the roots and I know sometime you feel like its just easier to shoot that waterhose over your bed but you don't actually get as much water to your plant that you think you are. I know you asked Gary but I've been watching him for 4 years and I know he would tell you the same keep growing and have a wonderful growing season. If your powder mildew isn't over half the plant just cut those bad leaves off and give it a treatment of whatever you use Gary has a few in his videos that you can use.

@Razzy-sr4oq2 жыл бұрын
The Japanese beetles are TOUGH, and Sevin can be pretty harsh, but if the other dust doesn't work, I know you'll have massive success with Japanese Beetle traps. They look like hourglass shaped bags, hang them a little ways away from your plants and soon they'll be 5lbs heavy with bugs.
