Gary Tucker is a fantastic teacher. The value study is so important. Gary also has a class via the internet which’s fantastic.

Great painting style, and also really good presentation: just the right pace to follow and no distracting music or silly clowning around. I got a lot out of this. Thanks.

To my eye, the second sky is pure magic! The clouds are chasing across the sky! I enjoyed seeing the three different versions of the same picture....brilliant!

Great tutorial. To borrow from the great, Joseph Zbukvic: Tea or coffee paint consistency on damp paper for the clouds, milk or cream paint on dry paper for the ocean. Butter on dry for seagulls.

I'm just starting to work with ocean scenes and don't have a clue. Working with too many colors is the first thing I'll change. Controlling the ratio of water to paint is another struggle. This was so helpful (and beautiful!) in showing a way forward for me. Thank you.

Never really the limited colored before. Somehow, it still turned out great! Wonderful demo, help me realized that nice watercolor can be done even just using one simple color with different tones! Less is more surely true in your style! Thanks. 🙌😃

Seems like one even I can do, although my first attempt was less than stellar! I will give it another try, after all, it's only paper, expensive, but paper none the less. One thing, you put the horizon smack dab in the middle of the paper, or doesn't that matter so much?
@alangeorgebarstow6 жыл бұрын
Excellent artwork and an inspiration. But please answer me this question on a confusing matter: Why do Americans refer to tone (i.e the relative lightness or darkness of a colour) as its "value"? This is very confusing to Europeans who, for centuries, have used the relevant term TONE to describe this. "Value", to us, is the monetary worth of a commodity. In art "value" is quite meaningless, unless you are referring to what you expect a painting to sell for.
@keithlillie23926 жыл бұрын
Semantics. We do use the word "value" as one of the "elements" of art. Tone is perfectly acceptable, but could also be thought of as a "principle" of art. The phrase, "What is the tone of the piece?" could be thought of as the "mood" or emotion.
