Greetings from Jamaica. I'm a young technician in the field, most of what I learn in the field of Ac/ refridgeration is from videos such as these you guys post,and I just wanna say thanks in advance. Also, I would love to learn more, and I've been reading a whole lot, but reading alone won't cut it, hands on is my thing. I just finished a short course in Refrigeration, but for some reason, I would love to go deeper so that I can hand the baton to my son,nephew etc to help them get a superb skill like refrigeration.

EXCELLENT VIDEO!!!!! Funny, I am in Massachusetts and in the code here we don't allow galvanized for gas. What I herd was that they had cases of the galvanized coating plugging a pin hole in the pipe where it would pass a test and leak later

Flame rectification circuit produces a partially rectified pulsing DC signal, it’s not completely rectified. You can still measure AC micro amps too, typically 25 ac micro amps or so, however, control board only interested in DC micro amps. True that many flame rods are replaced needlessly, but flame rods are prone to corrosion caused by contaminated combustion air. One important bit of information needed for pressure switch troubleshooting is how much deep negative pressure is required to close the switch at the start of the cycle. Manufacturer should supply this info. There’s only 3 possible pressure switch faults: 1.closed at the start of the cycle, 2. doesn’t close at the start of the cycle 3. opens during the cycle. Thank you for all your informative videos.

Great Video !! Is it the heat of the flame, or the flame itself, that touches the flame sensor rod that generates the Micro amp rectification signal.
@HVACS
@HVACS 3 жыл бұрын
The flame itself
@efco24
@efco24 3 жыл бұрын
The control board is what generates the "signal". When there is no flame the signal goes to the end of the flame rod that's insulated from ground and just sits there. As soon as the flame is established, the signal passes through the flame to the grounded burners. Now the control board knows two things, the gas valve is energized AND there is current moving through the flame rod, therefore it is safe to keep running. So why does it rectify? The signal from the board is alternating current. Now think like this. Say you're standing between a barn and soda can and you have a slingshot and a hand full of ball bearings. Shoot toward the barn and how many times will you hit it? Shoot towards the can and how many times will you hit it? In this case, the BB's are electrons, the air you're shooting through is the flame, the barn is the burners and the soda can is the flame rod. It's easy for the the electrons to hit the large burners, not so easy to hit the flame rod. So the board pushes a ton of electrons from the flame rod, through the flame and to the grounded burners. The when it tries to pull them back, the electrons go from the burner face, through the flame and mostly miss the flame rod. Hence the rectification.

Question: If the secondary heat exchanger is a tube and fin coil, Does this need periodic cleaning the same as other tube and fin coils to prevent build up of particulate or a film factor?
@paulgaras2606
@paulgaras2606 3 жыл бұрын
Effective air filtration is usually adequate to prevent that. The fins are never wet like they would be on an evaporator and they are spaced less densely than an evaporator. This prevents the secondary from getting too dirty. However, filter bypass, crappy filters and failure to change them can all allow dirt and debris to accumulate on the secondary. In that case, you may wind up having to pull the blower and vacuum the secondary off.

Hoping to pick your brain. I have a 100,000 (input) btu 80% Gas furnace in my 2 story home that is 2500 sq. ft. but there’s a 3 ton AC unit here as well but both units do great heating and cooling all season(s). Since this furnace specs are 5ton, 2000 cfm ECM motor, should my fan be set at 1200 cfm for the cooling speed? I realize the AC is undersized for whatever reason but it works great. Anything here that you would see as being an issue? Thank you for your time.
