Gas Holder Demolition 2013 - 14

Demolition of Gas Holders 57 & 58 at the old Wharf Lane gasworks in Rickmansworth. Taken over a period of 5 months. Thanks to Brown & Mason and the National Grid for giving permission to film. Film of a presentation of one of the gas holders plaques being donated to the Three Rivers Museum Trust will soon be available to see.

I am watching the same process at the moment. Shame, they are a marvel of (Victorian?) engineering.

This is exactly what I was looking for, a gasometer well with the water still filled. Apart from that it's wanton destruction. I mean, they're our past too...

Why do they have to do away with everything? A question The water inside the tanks must be polluted by contact with the gas(?) Where do they dispose of it or is 'safe' to pour down the drain?

Gas and water do not mix so water not polluted by gas. The water just evaporated.

Very interesting!! Very disappointing there demolishing them!! There starting to demolish the ones by me now!! Very sad to see them go after the amount of years it has been there...
