LOVE the manifold and the future labeling to be done. I do NG distribution and I can count on one hand the number of places I’ve been to with organized and labeled lines in the house (not counting commercial installs). looking great from over here in the uk! cant believe the inspector gets to specify where you have electrical outlets, can you have the final inspection before the floors are finished, that way just remove the unwanted outlets after the inspector has left. a quick tip from a plumber.... ptfe tape should be wound clockwise around the thread so that as the fittings are tightened the tape is pulled tighter into the thread. It was hard to see from the time lapse but it looked like yours was wound the other way.
@ChadCourtneyTAZ4274 жыл бұрын
Technically the inspector isn't specifying he exact locations of the electrical outlets. What's happening is code requirements, which is there must be an outlet within 6' of any break in a wall, and no more than 12' apart. As long as he follows those guides he's good. Since he was using stub walls, he thought that the code wasn't required. He took it upon himself to use in-floor outlets, placing them at those particular locations, the center points of each stub wall provided the minimum number he would need by code.

When I built my 4500 sqft house, that gas line was a hassle, not only here in MI you have to know total potential use of gas at all times thru your entire house but there is a formula on gas line size that comes into your house and reduces as you keep pigtailling different lines into it; I remember my intake was 2 1/2" and kept on down sizing until the last potential use end; one issue I had was that we had to reduce it with bell reducers and not ring reducers, they said the ring reducers can crack; your setup looks beautiful, just be careful at your state codes, also, if you put a instant water heater, that alone requires a 3/4" size to give you continuous hot water, I had one that was 230000 btu and originally had 1/2" on it, every so often my hot water got cold right in the middle of the shower, eventually we figured it out and did a 3/4", that was on my previous house, this one has a dual heater, it required 1" pipe line; But than again, I don't know how LP rules are, I am strictly talking of NG from the city; one thing I miss from the old house is the bathroom infloor water based heating system; I had that everywhere in the house before this, on this one just had to move fast and didn't have the time for that. Nice work so far on your part. Dan

Earth or ground bonding is used to reduce the risk of electric shocks to anyone who may touch two separate metal parts when there is a fault somewhere in the supply of electrical installation. By connecting bonding conductors between particular parts, it reduces the voltage there might have been between them. Certainly in the UK it is nothing to do with lightning, lightning would laugh at a cable that small! In the UK they don't tell us where we can put sockets/outlets, just where we can't put them. Also we can't work on gas without being qualified and registered. Love your channel!!
@skoalsoldier3 жыл бұрын
The bonding requirement is only because he is using CSST instead of iron piping. CSST has very thin walls and a high voltage electrical charge can burn a hole in it. The bonding cable prevents this.

You may want to make sure that your system has enough capacity to run everything at the same time. Your pipe may not be large enough when you run it through a straight manifold. I don't know that it's not large enough, I am just saying you may want to confirm how many appliances that size pipe (including in-floor boiler heating) will support.
@wickedkool7052 жыл бұрын
That’s what I was wondering too. I have 3/4” ng main that only supplies a water heater, boiler and a future cooktop. 3/4” supply from meter is just enough for 3 appliances. Ideally I would have 1” main.
@franklong62692 жыл бұрын
@@wickedkool705 I am NOT a gas piping expert, but with plumbing water piping, the size of your main line in from the utility is dependent on how many water fixtures are in the house. Gas is probably different because is compresses and a liquid doesn't. So probably the pressure of the gas line is what drives how many appliances it can drive. But you would still need a large enough main coming into the house.
@jimengland81254 жыл бұрын
Are going to run elevated pressure (2 psi) in the house? If not my concern would be flow capacity in your runs at 11" wc. Especially on the long runs. I would also recommend gas cocks(ball valves) with a side tap for easy pressure testing/troubleshooting. Enjoy the series BTW

Looking great, Paul! So glad you did well on your electrical inspection. Bonding the metal gas and water pipes also prevents you from having either system becoming energized with AC - imagine a rodent gnaws thru a wire and the bare hot lays against a pipe. That sucks having to install those recepts by the railing - the floor boxes were a good idea. Couple questions on the gas install - I thought you had to use the yellow teflon tape for petroleum applications?? Also, I thought the gas system had to be reduced in diameter as it went along , according to calcs for the equipment it feeds??? Much easier if you can just run a 3/4" the whole way, though. Definitely not a plumber here and have NO experience with propane (yet). Awesome progress and love the attention to detail!

Technically yes you are supposed to be yellow Teflon which is thicker than the white. The guy that taught me 20 years ago was to use white Teflon and pipe dope on top of that. Long time ago but I have had continued success doing it that way so I continue. I really should just use the yellow. I don’t really have any other reason for not using it other than just doing what I’ve done for years. As far as the gas system goes I will be doing a 2 psi second stage regulator and then maxitrol line regulators at my appliances. I’ll do a video on it.

As always, looks great, Paul! Have you considered using a tankless water heater rather than a boiler for your in-floor heat? I'm going to use a takagi 180,000 BTU tankless heater fueled by LP for my in-floor heat. It was engineered by a company that designs systems online. And from my research, I'm quite confident in the tankless heater rather than a boiler. With a boiler, you heat the water to 140° or higher, and then have to mix it with cold water so you don't have water too hot for the in concrete pecs tubing.

John, there are some flexible CSST (corrugated stainless steel tubing) piping that is approved for outside, direct bury use. They have a specialized jacket on the pipe to protect it. If you decide to go that route then make sure you check to see if it is approved for outside use, and bond your system to the electrical panel (like he did in this video). I myself would rather use some 3/4” polyethylene plastic pipe (you could use 1/2” depending on distance), but each method has pros and cons.

Sucks that you couldn’t get natural gas! Surprised you didn’t spring for a geothermal heat pump system instead of LP.

6 gas outlets on a 3/4 inch run. Please tell me how that's going to work. 3/4 inch gas pipe natural gas will only carry 375000 BT use LP gas. 3/4 inch should carry over 500000 B TU

@@thebesthello1786 I assume you're basing those numbers on the typical 11" water column, which is 0.4psi. This is 5x the pressure, so it's going to flow much more gas through the same size pipe.
