A little comfort tip: Take the mask off from back to front. If you wear it over longer time periods, especially in summer, moisture will collect around the exhaling membrane. So if you take the mask off the way you took off that GP-5, you'll smear it all over your face. Just a sergeant's advice^^

Won’t happen. The military (at least the US Army I was in) is VERY careful and detail oriented about ordinance. Chemical weapons are treated as very serious business and nerve agents are some of the worst. If a mask was used in a nerve agent environment, it would likely be destroyed when it’s taken out of service rather than risk putting it on the surplus market.

I noticed you mentioned polish gas mask filters and asbestos in the same sentence and immediately I got worried. I recently bought a polish gas mask from 1983 that looked extremely similar to the soviet gp5 masks. I have worn it but never attached the filter to it. The filter is tall, and shaped almost like a large alcohol flask. I don’t know what model the gas mask is and I was wondering if the filter was dangerous or not. If you could tell me if it is or not, I would appreciate it.
@Weaponsandstuff936 жыл бұрын
There's not been tests done on the other Polish and Czechoslovakian filters from the Cold War so personally I wouldn't trust them, personally I would recommend you use modern Polish filters such as the FP-5 that still fit on the old masks but are perfectly safe. Sounds like you have a Polish EO-14 filter, I personally wouldn't want to breath through that for extended periods.

No such thing as a GP-5 hose, it's simply a Soviet 40mm hose, my OM-14 hose has a rip in it but the ShMS hose works, to test it simply block the intake of the hose, if air gets in the hose has a rip in it.

What's a "national filter"? I know this video was posted awhile ago but would you be able to replace a WW2 gas mask filter with some newer filter. Most likely not but I’m curious.

You need to watch what filters they use Example gp5 fits 40mm filters so you can potentially use all 40mm filter whit the gp5

Do you know if the pbf filters have asbestos? I'm not sure the years those were made
@Weaponsandstuff937 жыл бұрын
Most likely yes, every other Soviet filter contained asbestos.
