gasless mig welding for beginners (MY FIRST TRY)

Gasless MiG welding for beginners, Watch my first attempt at flux core welding I am used to mig welding with co2 but have never try gasless mig welding. If you are attempting to mig weld for the first time I would recommend trying gasless mig welding first as it is not only quite easy to learn but you will also save money on buying welding gas and gas bottle rental. But I have noticed that the price of gasless wire is a lot more expensive than the normal solid core wire. I have also not been able to buy large 15 kg rolls of the gasless wire maybe because of the higher cost people buy smaller amounts.

For flux core you should remove the shield screw on at the end of your torch and wrap some tape around the threads or get a gas less cover to protect the threads, that cover is just a gas shield to keep the gas at the weld, and flux will penatrate deeper than solid wire. At the end of the day the price of flux core is cheaper and more convenient than using gas.

Hello Pete I use flux core on my Hobart 140 it’s easier to move unit around without the weight of tank and cart . And being outside in the wind.Carts don’t do good in my yard grass,rocks, mud, etc. but I prefer hard wire anyway hell im rambling on again so stay safe ur W.V. pal

Hey on your smaller spool,put bolt behind your larger spool,see it with a pvc adapter for the spool hole,nut on both sides for drag adjustment and ya got it set,just might be what ya need.

Pete I need help mate I'm aluminium fabricator I'm only two yrs in but IV only done aluminium mig welding with gas but my boss is old (78) n isn't big on spending time teaching me so I brought my own mig welder but it's gasless cause I'm not cashed up ATM but I wanna weld aluminium and steel but my local Bunnings only had aluminium wire in normal 0.9 the dude at Bunnings said it was the right one but I thought I needed flux cored wire can U tell me what's the go btw I'm gonna go into work me day off n try n get help but my boss isn't a lot of help all the time

real cost of flux core wire is $15 per 1 kg roll so only a few bucks more, only reason co2 unit can weld thinner and penetrating less compare to no-gas set up , is because of polarity, nothing to do with gas

I've been welding and fabricating with flux core wire for years. I finally got around to getting a flow regulator and tank of C25. The biggest difference is the amount of weld penetration. The flux core definitely has way more. I prefer that for my fabrication work. Where the gas welding shines is with the welding of thin metal parts. You can with gas where the flux core would just vaporize it. It's nice to have both options.

G'day Pete. I've been using flux cored wire for quite some time now because the amount of welding I do doesn't justify the cost of gas bottles + the rental etc. As you mentioned the wire is a bit dearer but nowhere near the price of gas etc. If I had a lot of welding to do I'd use gas, but due the amount I do the flux cored wire suits me entirely. Because nothing is "free" there's one HUGE caveat with flux core - the flux is corrosive. Very corrosive. Leave that flux on there for an hour and the new steel you just welded in is rusting... RULE 1 for using flux core is have a cordless drill with a wire brush attachment close to hand. Wheel those welds till they gleam. Spotless. That one move makes flux-core viable as a process. Don't wheel them welds, you just introduced more corrosion than you started out to fix. They will rot out in the blink of an eye. You gotta wheel the welds - do that & it's brilliant. Don't and it's rubbish.
