Hi Pierre - I have just discovered your site and I am working my way through your blogs. My interest is because I lived in Malta between 1962 and 1965. Ghar Hassan in those days was a popular tourist destination. A man sat at a little wooden table at the entrance and issued you with a little pen torch as part of your admission fee which was 1 shilling and sixpence in old English money. You then joined a group of 5 or 6 people and were led by a guide up to Hassan's 'residence' and then back down. Your blog brought back so many happy memories for me. Please keep up the good work. I always tell people that there is so much more to Malta than Paceville!!

at 14:44 what he calls Villa Hasan is in reality a very ancient tomb which could be dating back to XII e il X sec. B.C and reused in following centuries.

Pier I've been there with the family. Only at the front I banged my head and wanted to leave mentioning Hassan. YOu get into really tight places .so the cave can fall well take care and hope some idiots won't try to go in there without supervision . The first rocks you showed are beautiful .

Hello Pierre. Great Video. My Maltese relatives said Ghar Hassan goes all the way to Marsa. Is there any truth in this? My Nanna was born Catherina Farrugia and my dad was born in 1939 and was in Malta during the war in Birzebbuga where people took shelter in the caves. We used to visit Ghar Hassan until the cliff collapse caused by the lorries.

I remember going deep in, until i came to a hole which was too small to fit. i remember finding graffiti from late 1940s. Did you go to that area? i dont remember the tunnel being THAT tight!

I think we didn’t left a tunnel unexplored but without a map is difficult to say

Jekk minix qed nitfixkilha ma xi leġġenda oħra, l-istorja ta' Għar Ħasan nafha li t-tfajla ħarbet minn taħt l-għadu u marret tistkenn f'din l-għar. Il-leġġenda tkompli li t-tfajla talbet lil Madonna biex ma tinqabadx. F'dak il-ħin minnufih brimba niżġet għanqbuta fil-bokka ta' l-għar. Meta l-għadu għadda minn hemm ma daħalx għax jaseb li peress li kien hemm l-għanqbuta żgur ma daħletx hemm tistaħba. U b'hekk it-tfajla rnexxielha tiżgiċċa 'l barra u taħrab. Forsi storja iktar romantika bi tmiem iktar feliċi. Iżda minix ċert jekk hux qiegħed inħawwadha ma xi leġġenda oħra.
