how did you skip the respawn? For me he usually floats for a couple seconds then respawns once you kill him the first time

this is usually what's supposed to happen but sometimes the boss skips the respawn animation when you kill him, you can't really control it so it's all about rng. But when it happens you're happy and gain 2s of free dps
