You must be quite lucky to be a functioning member of society, but not everyone can be so fortunate. Due to various reasons and circumstances, specially in japan, a lot of people recede from society and completely shun the idea of re-entering. Cases of their own family chasing them off and disowning them, being ridiculed and bullied, humiliated, isolated and the likes when they first attempted to reenter society and many more of the sort causing the people in the situation to think that death is the best way out - thus the high suicide rate of Japanese. In Japan an average of 30,000 people commit suicide every year and majority of them are men. Depression is as real as it can get, people experience it, suffer from it and some even die from it. Not everyone can be like you who just goes about with his daily life like its some sort of journey or adventure. This thing, even though just programmed to say these things, say the things that the person needs to hear most. That makes a difference. Compared to being alone and isolated, having something to cling on to, even if it's just a machine makes all the difference for those people. This thing may very well be able to save the lives of thousands of people.

On the flip side it's still prohibitively expensive for many, and there is a limited amount of experimental games tailored specifically for VR, although enough to keep you busy for quite some time. Even 5 years is going to be a big change, however imagine what 10 years of R&D on gaming and upgraded VR will do, 4k 120fps vr, with Graphics that will blow your mind, and at a affordable price, not to mention what sort of tech gaming companies will have cooked up by then. Exciting times ahead. By that time also you will be able to pick up a second hand VR on someplace like Ebay for less than 100$, that will be a breakthrough in getting to the masses.

The thing is that Japanese working culture is so time-intensive that tons of otherwise "normal" people simply have no time to get out and socialize people. There are tens of thousands of young men and women who simply aren't dating because they don't have enough time to invest into it, which is a big factor contributing to the falling birth rate. This will provide those people with some of the comfort having a partner would be giving them.

Maybe without all the waifuisms and just be proactive: for example if I'm out I want the pda to recommend me audibly that there is a restaurant that I might like. I don't ever post personal comments, but please let me ramble.. I'm 25, both parents and my sister have passed away. I still live at the same house we all use to live in together, & it's painfully dark & desolate now. Being home genuinely hurts. Every single day. Due to severe depression from losing everyone, I lost my friends as well. It may sound ridiculous, but submerging myself into anime, manga or a good game is the only thing that makes me feel like I'm even still alive. I know there are a lot of people out there that probably feel the same way I do. I've just found out about Gatebox & it's just really, really incredible. I mean, I talk to my cats (Obviously I have cats), but as a human I still crave something more. Something or someone that will actually talk back to me. I know it will take a very long time for me to be able to buy this amazing product, but I am so excited just knowing that this exists. It may seem silly but this has really given me a ray of hope. One day, because of Gatebox, I won't be alone anymore, my home won't be empty. She will be there. Thank you for creating this

All they do is greet you cheerfully in the morning and say nice things. To think that a man might actually buy such a thing and then conclude he now has no need for a wife or a girlfriend. It shows just how little men actually want from women. men are simple, self-sufficient creatures. Ladies, take this to heart: you don't need to be beautiful. You don't need to be a gourmet chef. You don't need a fancy job. You don't need to be a sex goddess. You don't need to be smart. All men want is a little bit of sugar - that little bit of feminine sweetness. Just smile, be cheerful and nice to a man, and he will happily serve you until the day he dies." Don't know who said this and while I don't agree with everything said here, it does make you think... As for the Gatebox, if someone gets some sense of relief from it then I'm happy for them.

So if you can be kicked out of your family that easily and since it happens so often these days, were you ever really part of that family in the first place? And if your kids can be taken away from you so easily, were they ever really yours? I'm of the opinion that men can't have families or children. The only thing we can be is a temporary guest in the woman's family who can be exiled anytime she gets bored with you or becomes more attracted to some other man. Women can no longer be trusted to be decent partners to build a life with, so men are opting out. I would have been a good husband and a good father. I could have supported a family on my income alone but it's just too dangerous, so I decided not to do it.

+xXxHussarxXx To understand the need this fulfills in their society you must understand their harsh work culture, every year hundreds of people die from exhaustion. They work all day and have very little time to have human interactions (it's not uncommon for an office worker to work 13-16 hours a day). This product is to counter depression, loneliness, etc. In their reality they can't just go out and meet people and fall in love as easily as in most societies. It's not that they prefer this to real people, it's that their culture doesn't permit actual human interactions.

for the people calling this sad and stuff need to do research, gatebox was developed as a virtual assistant and help stop suicides rate because in 2014 on average 70 people commited suicide PER DAY including mostly men and while it has been declining japan still has one of the highest suicide rates
@TwistedLemniscate7 жыл бұрын
Lfren38 I do think a monthly "Women ask out men day" would be more beneficial to Japan than this though.

+TwisterLemniscate Are you stupid? This is a legitimate question. Are you seriously that dumb or are you just trolling.

That information make this thing all the more sad. A machine to satiate your desires because 70+ people(Mostly men) are killing themselves over not being able to find girlfriends(Or not trying to). Doesn't that sound sad?

like the guy said, having "someone" waiting for you at home gives a different feeling. Even if you know that is just a machine, that it's just programmed to say those things, it still gives a feeling of comfort. Humans are emotional beings, just being able to hear the words we need to hear is enough to make a difference for us.
