Pros gated comm- safer for children and family to walk / ride bikes etc on the street Better for diasporians not always at the home for long periods of time - less need for a caretaker if the community has management services. There are no bars or drinking spots or worship megaphones Chickens and goats etc as your next door neighbours Cons Can feel isolating because people are inside with no real activities going on outside the compound ( the food seller, covenience shops, catching a taxi right outside the home etc) Monthly HOA fees in perpetuity Noise rules etc

Thank you Dela for opening my eyes about these so called gated communities. Sounds like a mini prison with no free water and food. I grew up in the township in Bulawayo to be specific and nothing can top it. It's more like a village in the city.

I don't think it's the service charge per se, its the not getting the service you paid for that is the sticking point.. but you're right you should enter the situation ready to be hands on...🔌💡💧🛠

That account of how the burglary took place, with you in the “vulnerable” state, is really triggering - in that, it hit too close to home being reminded of the sheer cruelty visited on so many by “kinfolk”. Basically, we are not safe, even in that “gated” community setting. Take home message …

Great perspective on the variations. I personally find the propensity for petty crime in the form of theft depressing, because it really is endemic, anything and everything can be stolen unless protected. Maybe the disparity between rich and poor? plus because it occurs in such a religious country is strange, or is it because there are no bigger crooks than the pastors lol Love the multi coloured pants by the way lol

In the USA when there is a break in it's usually some within the community. False sense of security

I believe that too

They do that in Jamaica to and then enter your house and steal your stuff.

Ghana is still a 3rd world country guys. Gated community or not. The law and security in Ghana don't work like here in western countries! Be careful before investing your money there

Blowing dust through the window?😅 If you are being serious, that is some next level business. Drugs or obeah?
