Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge - First Time in the Smokies

We prefer staying in Gatlinburg because we like to be "up in the mountains"....Pigeon Forge to us is like the valley. We go down into PF a LOT because of all the attractions/dining/shopping. But to kick back and relax we'd rather be up on Old Smoky. Another great video y'all!!!!

We love both. Have stayed in Pigeon Forge more and like the attractions and food options there. Best for when kids are with you. The uniqueness of Gatlinburg can’t be overlooked as it is a special feel....plus the Log Cabin restaurant is there which is our favorite. Great video Bob!!

Gatlinburg to me is like Cliffton Hill on the Canadian side at Niagara Falls. It's tighter, as in you can cross the street and look at things on the other side. Pigeon forge is what, 6 lanes wide, its not so easy to cross the street but you can actually "drive the parking lots" from one area to another. My husband likes Pigeon Forge and I prefer Gatlinburg 😃 so, since im leaving this review, its Gatlinburg lol 👍🏻

G’bur & PF are both tourists traps. Townsend is called the peaceful side of the smokies, right next to Smoky Mtn. National Park without the noise....my favorite vacation spot.

I would say Gatlinburg we stay at River Terrace Resorts it’s a very nice place it’s clean and right on river road. We can just walk to the strip. And the price we paid for a week for 2 people 2 queen beds was only $452. And I will always book there from now on. The staff is great if you call for anything you need they bring it right to you and say it would be my pleasure they get a 10 from me 😁

Early November I plan on staying at a motel in Gatlinburg and walking to the places I want to visit there and driving to Pidgeon Forge to visit a few things there. Hopefully the traffic and crowds won't be too bad but I hear that area is really busy during the fall. Thanks for the video.

I voted for Pigeon Forge during your poll. I love the roominess of Pigeon Forge. Gatlinburg makes me feel claustrophobic. Even before the pandemic, the sidewalks and streets were so crowded that it was hard to enjoy being there. I agree that Gatlinburg has a different, more mountainous vibe; after all, the National Park is right there. But it is no longer a family-friendly city. I remember when you could walk into most any store in Gburg and you would hear Christian music playing. Now it's moonshine and CBD. Yes, Pigeon Forge does have it's share of both. But you can walk the Parkway in Pigeon Forge; we have done it many times. Yes, it is stretched out, but you have room to breathe. You can also walk the wonderful Riverwalk greenway--one of my favorite things in PF. We just returned from a stay in Pigeon Forge at the nice Home2 Suites. Thanks for the recommendation, Bob! We enjoyed it.

If you have kids Gatlinburg at night is bad. Love that you stayed at Home2!! Great hotel. We will try the Greenway. We haven't done it before!

We love Gatlinburg because like you and Miranda said there is a vibe in town. You may have to wake up early to get in line at the Pancake Pantry, but the bonus there is after you are done you can walk through town with very little foot traffic. The last time we were there it may have been the busiest I’ve ever seen, but when it gets crazy we go back to the hotel and chill at the pool, or head to the mountains. Idk, we like Pigeon Forge but Gatlinburg has our hearts!

My wife and I love Gatlinburg . We stay at the Old Gatlinburg condo rentals and we love it there . You can go to the mountains without hitting the traffic and you can take the back short cut out to route 321 east and miss the traffic and you are real close to town where can walk to town and through the village stores . We love to walk and observe people and be close to everything . There is so much to see and do without having to get in your car to get there . We drive up to Pigeon forge for the shows because that is what Gatlinburg is missing . Sweet Fanny Adams closed down and we always went there for a laugh . I think Pigeon Forge is more young people and kid oriented and I think Gatlinburg is more old people friendly . I wish they would build more go carts tracks and show theatres in or just outside Gatlinburg so you wouldn't have to go through all that traffic in Pigeon Forge .

I was also down in the Smokies during Rod Run one year - and like you - I didn't even know it was going on. Horrible traffic. I think it took us like two hours to go from Gatlinburg to Pigeon Forge - which is insane. I always check now to make sure that is not going on before I go down there.

We go to Pigeon Forge because we love Publix, but overall we would much rather spend our time in Wears Valley, Townsend and the Mountains. Half a day at a few stores in Pigeon Forge, Half a day walking in Gatlinburg, the rest of our vacation is in the Mountain areas of both Tennessee and North Carolina.

I've been to both and I like them both, but if I had to pick it would be Gatlinburg. Mainly because of being able to see and do so much by just walking within a reasonable area and there is a definite feel about Gatlinburg as well. Enjoyed the video as usual.

Here's a secret... There's a trolley to delete the parking problem in Gatlinburg 🤭 I will let the grandkids go out alone in Gatlinburg, but NO WAY in Pigeon Forge (the traffic). I choose Gatlinburg. I feel like I'm visiting friends and family. Pigeon Forge feels like I'm visiting a friend's friends... I kinda' know them, but I don't hang out with them much.

We have spent more time in Pigeon Forge, but always have a great time in Gatlinburg. I agree the walk in Gatlinburg is much easier. I had the whole family mad at me trying to walk around Pigeon Forge a couple of years ago, on a hot day. Thankfully, we stopped at Pigeon Forge Snow for some fun and relief from the heat. Lesson learned the hard way.Lol

This is how I see it, Gatlinburg is better for adults. While pigeon forge is better for kids. Both have attractions, but more in pigeon forge. The titanic is easily my favorite thing in both cities.

Pigeon Forge is probably a little more handicap friendly as you can park in front of almost every business. Bronnners and Jungle Jim's are definitely on the list!

Gatlinburg is an Alpine village feel and Pigeon Forge is a mountain town feel. I prefer Pigeon Forge for the more laid back less congested feel, and parking is way easier 😃 Nightlife is for sure Gatlinburg 🌠 As you say, it is all in what you are looking for 🐾🦊🐺

Gatlinburg isbeautiful but too crowded and congested. Not enough people social distancing or wearing mask. I prefer being in the mountains over being near them... So I stay in PF go to the national park and try to skip Gatlinburg... I also hate the crosswalks and pedestrians in Gatlinburg.
