Gato is back and Blinder than Ever - Fatal Fury CotW Gameplay Trailer Breakdown

So the SNK championships were happening in China and we got a (not so) surprise drop for Fatal Fury City of the wolves! Our latest trailer is the returning Gato who is a fan favourite and he brings his brutal brand of kungfu back although with a difference... he's not opening his eyes! He realized that sight was holding him back and he fights blind now, always a character that gato. So cotw trailer breakdown lets go!

All I knew about Gato was that he's from Garou but became playable in the first DLC team in KOF15. Never looked further into his lore, but I think it's cool that despite recovering from the blindness he got from his father, he chooses to continue fighting blind anyway.

As long as it stays popular enough (for a FG) and SNK doesn’t bungle the matchmaking again out of the gate, it will be the same for me. I’d love to see what the team can do with this title over 3-4 years, so I hope it does well enough casually and competitively.

I mean, CotW and SF6 have very similar system mechanics, which I personally find to be a bummer. I feel like SnK could've gotten way more creative if they wouldn't have stuck with the idea of implementing SF6's mechanics in FF and instead came up with something completely originial instead tbh.

@@Nyagrothe mechanics that separate the two games are already vast. The Rev bar has minor similarities in burning out, and starting with your meter at once. Other than that they are vastly different.

@@martintownsend9550 Even the devs said they took heavy inspiration from SF6 with that one. Just in case it wasn't already obvious when looking at matches. There is really no need to defend any of this. Ofc, there can still be significant differences but in which way do you think we would've gotten something more unique? Heavy inspiration from SF6 or SnK doing their own thing? We already have the issue in the genre that, especially on the japanese devs side, there are genre wide trends across multiple titles released in a similar time frame which already limits variety.

brake means you stop the move early, but it can still connect and get some properties. so for him it turns his uppercut style up kicks into a launcher for example

If the back-turn is indeed a new stance (we don't know for sure) then i'm going to make the call that he's already using it in some of the early combo examples in his trailer. I say this because he does some z-axis rotations extremely quickly that to me look like they could be some form of stance cancel.

The combo at 5:01 is probably a feint to link cl.Cs then a brake to launch, rather than two brakes. As of the most recently seen builds it seems the intent is all characters get 3 brake moves one of which is a Redline (level 2) super. So whole Gato likely has a brake that isn't dp+D, I can't say we've seen it yet.

I really like the gato and the style of the character, an anti-hero with ancient legendary techniques to earn a living as an elite mercenary and screw over the protagonists like the Terrys and the villains like Kevin. The gato ending in the first Mark of Garou is good, I just didn't like him being blinded by his father who seems to be a powerful anti-hero villain using other villains together with some other organization or brotherhood. I hope that the fight between gato and his father isn't so sad, but I think that Hotaru Fubata will interfere, which can help or worsen the situation. I hope that gato wins and always continues in this style. His now black outfit may be to show that he is going down a darker path than usual, and that yellow energy appearing on his shoulders and body now looks like the Chi Hadou energy from the Street Fighter series that Ryu used to sense the presence of opponents and not kill, in the case of Bison, and that Ken aims to use to kill in extreme cases of survival. This fatal Fury Mark of Garou City of Wolves promises, I don't have many expectations for this game, but I hope for a female version of the kickboxer bash, a new capoeira bob wilson, a boxer, a new break dancer, and I would like a character like chin kof jamie from sf and drunkmaster from martial masters drunk fist half gato k rugal with moves like theirs especially the grabs like theirs vice and mature, a female geese and a male version of kasumi would be good too, other fighting styles are missing like arabic sumo mma savate etc, and how about the chance of a capcom vs snk 3 Terry and May are in SF6, who knows, maybe Jamie Luke and Helena from SF6 won't show up in Mark of Garou Fatal Fury City of Wolves, excellent game and video, Brazil.
